MIDWEEK GAMES

Enterprise National League

Tuesday 31st March 2026

  • Southend United 2-1 Yeovil Town
  • Wealdstone 7-0 Hartlepool United
  • Woking 1-1 Altrincham

TONIGHT'S OPPOSITION: WOKING

Woking report that "The Cards return to the Laithwaite Community Stadium on Tuesday evening, hosting an Altrincham side who currently sit in 15th.

Last time out, the Cards registered their first loss of the month, with a spirited performance seeing title-chasers York City only able to break through from the spot.

Now attention turns to Tuesday, as a lengthy journey for Altrincham sees them take to Surrey with the hope of avenging the reverse fixture [won by the Cards 3-1]...

Woking will... be looking to... extend their unbeaten home run of 2026...

Altrincham... have this season struggled to put a run of form together in the league... A troubled away record sees them take to Surrey having won just three league games on the road this campaign".

HEAVY DEFEAT FOR ALTY WOMEN

On Sunday, Alty Women lost 1-6 at home to Runcorn Linnets in their final match of the league season.

Altrincham FC reports that "The Robins started the first half brightly when skipper Natalie Lowe dealt the first blow of the game. The midfielder picked up the ball and unleashed a fierce shot from just inside the eighteen-yard box, which sailed past the Linnets keeper, giving Altrincham the lead inside the opening five minutes.

Despite pressure from Runcorn, the Robins held firm, but unfortunately, their strong defence was unlocked with a neat set-piece routine from the visitors...

Going into the break, Altrincham looked the stronger of the two sides on the final day.

However, the Linnets struck early into the second half to get themselves ahead... The visitors quickly extended their advantage with a second goal in a matter of minutes to stretch the game away from Altrincham but not quite out of reach.

However, it would be put out of reach at the hour mark, as another shot sailed in, carried by the wind high above the reach of Kaleta...

As the second half drew to a close, the visitors showed no mercy and secured themselves another two goals in what was a frustrating afternoon for the Robins as they rounded off their record-breaking season".

LUKE MURRAY R.I.P.

Alty supporter Alan Bonson has kindly informed the Alty Files about the death of longstanding fellow supporter, Luke Murray (pictured, right), whose funeral took place on 13 March in Huddersfield. The Alty Files apologises to Luke's family and friends for its delay in posting this information, due to personal circumstances.

Alan writes that "Luke was a supporter of AFC since the early 1960s and, therefore, maybe have been a familiar face to some. Sadly he passed away peacefully at his Huddersfield home on Sunday 8th February.

One of Luke’s favourite players of recent years was Nicky Clee, who he admired his skills as a player and who played the game with a positive attitude - in fact it was Luke who sponsored Nicky’s shirt in his last playing season at Golcar FC which was Luke’s local club, when he wasn’t watching AFC or listening to Radio Robins".

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

The Board at Scunthorpe United "confirms that it will submit its financial statements for the year ended 30 June 2025 tomorrow.

The accounts show a reported loss of approximately £738,000 for the year (2024: approximately £674,000). While the headline result appears slightly worse year-on-year, the Board wishes to highlight an exceptional factor that materially affects comparability between the two periods: the 2024 reported loss was significantly supported by non-recurring donations.

Adjusting for those donations, the underlying loss position in 2024 was closer to £1 million. The 2025 result also reflects legacy contracts and cost commitments honoured from the prior ownership period, which have continued to create cost drag during the transition.

The Board are encouraged by the progress made during the current financial year. The current outlook indicates a projected loss for the year ending 30 June 2026 of approximately £400,000, representing a further meaningful reduction in the annual loss position and continued improvement in the Club’s underlying trading trajectory. This figure excludes the impact of a play-off run, which would materially improve the figure detailed".

The National League says that "Gateshead manager Rob Elliot knows the Enterprise National League relegation race is not run... The Heed find themselves five points above the bottom four after three wins from four and a run of one defeat in their last eight matches.

It’s a far cry from the side who feared their season had spiralled out of all control after a run of 13 successive league defeats, which lasted until mid-February...

But Elliot - who returned to the North East at the start of 2026 - knows the job is far from done. On Saturday they beat Yeovil Town 2-1...

'It was the first time we went into a match outside the relegation zone and showed the mentality and composure to go and get another three points,' he said.... 'I said to the lads that you've got to make sure you get as many points on the board because going to Carlisle and then Scunthorpe, things could change.

'But I told them for the first time in a long time, this is in your hands now. So you don't need to check the table, you don't need to worry about anyone else. And I'm sure everyone will, because that's normal, but now you win your games and you stay up.

'The big thing for me is that we look like a team that has the bit between our teeth, we're buying into the structure and the shape.'”

NEXT OPPONENTS APPOINT DEFOE AS MANAGER

On Tuesday, Altrincham visit Woking for the second time this season, having already reached Kingfield on Valentine's Day only for the match to be subject to a late postponement owing to an "unplayable pitch".

The Cards lost narrowly to a late penalty at York City last Saturday but, before that, they had been unbeaten in seven games (4 wins, 3 draws) under the interim management trio of Craig Ross, Jake Hyde and Dale Gorman. They had taken over after the sacking of Neal Ardley which was announced at the start of this month.

In Phil Parkinson's last league game as Altrincham manager, his side lost at home 1-3 to Woking in October 2025. Above we see Alty, in that match, racing out of their defensive positions, as Woking's Boatswain appeals to the referee.

On Sunday evening, Woking announced "the appointment of Jermain Defoe as the club’s new Manager.

Defoe joins the club following a distinguished playing career at the highest levels of the game and has built coaching experience through his work within the academy structure at Tottenham Hotspur and in a player-coach role at Rangers FC as part of Steven Gerrard’s coaching staff.

Following a detailed recruitment process, the club identified Defoe as the candidate whose values, leadership style and footballing philosophy best aligned with its long-term vision.

Club Chairman Todd Johnson said... 'What stood out to us during the process was how he sees the game, how he drives standards, and his approach to leadership and player development'...

Director of Football Jody Brown added, 'Jermain’s love of the game, his determination to succeed and his alignment with our preferred playing philosophy were important'...

Jermain Defoe [said] 'Woking is a historic club with huge potential, and I’m thrilled to be part of this exciting project. I can’t wait to get started'.

Defoe will be supported by Assistant Coach Paul Bracewell, who joins the club with extensive experience, including roles at Fulham FC, Sunderland AFC and Halifax Town AFC... We are pleased to confirm that Craig Ross and Jake Hyde will continue to play important roles within the club’s coaching structure moving forward, following their outstanding work in the interim period...

The interim coaching team of Craig Ross, Jake Hyde and Dale Gorman will continue to take charge of the team through Tuesday night’s fixture against Altrincham FC".

Footnote: The Cards lost narrowly to a late penalty at York City last Saturday but, before that, they had been unbeaten in seven games (4 wins, 3 draws) under the interim management trio of Craig Ross, Jake Hyde and Dale Gorman. They had taken over after the sacking of Neal Ardley which was announced at the start of this month.

Ollie Sanderson, with 12 goals is their leading National League scorer.

After eight games in 25 days, Woking will face an Altrincham side who have played just five times in the same period but who now face four games in 12 days.

ALTY TV HIGHLIGHTS OF SOLIHULL GAME

Alty TV has highlights of the 1-0 defeat at Solihull Moors last Saturday.

MATTY KOSYLO, THE NON-LEAGUE UKRAINIAN

Apologies for the delay in posting the following image/link (right) to a 52 minute video on "Matty Kosylo, the Non-League Ukrainian" an informative 52 minute production centred on the Altrincham player and coach.

NATIONAL LEAGUE LOSSES: BIG MONEY

Respected football writer Kieran Maguire's "X" account has a chart comprising "a quick look at the price of non-league football.

Average losses in 2024/25 were £861k...

The clubs that have reported have between themselves lost over £84 million since the clubs were set up".

The comments are accompanied by a chart showing fifteen National League clubs from 2024-25 season.

Top of the annual losses are Oldham Athletic (£3,954,000), followed by Forest Green Rovers (£2,993,000) then Rochdale, Dagenham & Redbridge and Eastleigh

Sixth on this chart are Altrincham with losses of £948,000.

NATIONAL LEAGUE LOSSES: SMALL MARGINS

On the pitch this season, Altrincham have lost 21 league games with small margins proving costly.

14 of the Robins' 21 defeats this season have been by a single goal. As outlined a few days ago five of those single-goal defeats were to goals conceded in the 86th minute or later.

  • Morecambe (A) lost 2-1 to a 98th minute goal
  • Tamworth (H) lost 2-1 to an 86th minute goal
  • Aldershot Town (A) lost 2-1 to a 92nd minute goal
  • York City (H) lost 2-1 to a 92nd minute goal
  • Scunthorpe United (A) lost 2-1 to a 92nd minute goal

Altrincham's wins this season do not include any matches that have been won by more than two goals. The last completed season when Altrincham failed to win a match by more than two goals was the 2020-21 campaign.

THROUGH THE YEARS: 31 MARCH

The Through the Years data of Howard Watts and Mike Garnett for the date of Altrincham's next game, 31 March, tell us that the Robins have lost all eight of their most recent fixtures onthat date, their last win on 31 March being as far as 1990 at home to Enfield.

Right: Sam Heathcote and Tom Hannigan compete for an aerial ball at Rushall on 31 March 2018.

Their most recent defeat on 31 March was a 2-0 loss at Rushall Olympic in 2018 in the Evo-Stik Premier League North.

It was their first defeat away from home in the league since September 2017. On a difficult surface, Altrincham struggled to create chances in the first half and fell behind on the stroke of half-time when Whittall headed home from a corner.

Without the injured Hampson, Poole and Harrison and with White also not fit enough to start, Altrincham improved a little in the second half and forced a couple of good saves from keeper Slinn.

But Olympic wrapped the game up in the 88th minute when Waldron got the better of the otherwise impressive Hannigan to make it 2-0.

ALTRINCHAM: 1. Tony THOMPSON, 2. Shaun DENSMORE, 3. Sam HEATHCOTE, 4. Tom HANNIGAN, 5. James JONES, 6. Jake MOULT (c), 7. John JOHNSTON, 8. Simon RICHMAN, 9. Jordan HULME, 10. Tom PEERS, 11. Josh HANCOCK. Subs: 12. Max HARROP, 14. Chris MERRIE, 15. Andy WHITE, 16. Theo BAILEY-JONES, 20. Andrew JONES

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports that in the South Korea K League 2, MARCUS DACKERS (right) didn't come out for the second half as Daegu, trailing 1-2 to visitors Seoul E-Land, went on to concede a third goal in the 100th minute.

Meanwhile in the Welsh Premier League Championship Group, Connah's Quay Nomads have reached a "nothing to play for situation" as they went into this afternoon's home game against Barry already 18 points behind the almost eternal champions TNS, but 12 points ahead of 3rd placed Colwyn Bay with only two more matches to come.

JOHN DISNEY'S charges have therefore already earned a spot in the qualifiers for next season's Europa Conference League. Captained by JAMES JONES, they were behind at the break to Barry's only shot of the match, but equalised in the 70th minute with their only shot on target. It certainly didn't seem to have been riveting entertainment.

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS NEWS

Gateshead's transformation in recent weeks has been remarkable. After thirteen successive defeats from November to February, The Heed have since won even of their next twelve league games, drawn three and lost just twice.

Those results have lifted Gateshead out of the bottom four and two loan signings from Middlesbrough joined the club before their game last Saturday.

The club confirmed "the loan signings of Middlesbrough duo Shea Connor and Rio Patterson-Powell... for the remainder of the ENL campaign... with goalkeeper Connor joining following an injury to Pete Jameson while winger Patterson-Powell offers The Heed an outfield option.

"Connor has appeared eight times in Premier League 2... and the 20 year-old spent one game on an emergency loan to National League North side Darlington in April 2025 after being included in senior squads for Middlesbrough on numerous occasions...

Patterson-Powell has made the bench twice in the Championship for Middlesbrough... and has turned out ... in Boro's National League Cup fixture against Gateshead".

SOLIHULL MOORS 1-0 ALTRINCHAM

Match report here.

NEIL ANGRY AFTER DEFEAT

Altrincham manager Neil Gibson told Alty TV that after the defeat at Solihull he was "really angry over our first half performance, angry over our lack of desire". He judged that we played "as if we had nothing to play for".

"We did not get started for the first ten or fifteen minutes... it was a game low on quality from both sides", he felt.

Neil said that "Our game plan was to take the game to Solihull but nothing came to fruition in the first half"

In short, he said, "I'm disappointed with the group and they know my feelings about that".

"Coming out on the wrong side of tight games has happened far too often this season.. Our away form has been dreadful for the last 18 months so we have been desperate to give the travelling fans sonething to cheer" said Neil as he saluted those who have travelled to support the team this season.

ALTY OLD BOYS

Chronologically, Phil Jordan's review of "old boy" activity on Saturday started in the Antipodes.

In Australia's NPL Victoria: CONNOR HAMPSON and his Oakleigh Cannons teammates travelled to old rivals Avondale, who are not the force of recent seasons, and came away with a 1-1 draw.

Scottish Championship : KIAN TAYLOR was yet again an unused substitute for Morton as they beat visitors Arbroath 2-1.

League One : JUNIOR QUITIRNA came off the Wycombe Wanderers bench in the 63rd minute with his team already leading struggling Port Vale 1-0, and he rounded off the scoring in their 4-0 win in the 93rd minute.

ALI SMITH played the full game for AFC Wimbledon, but they were beaten 3-0 at Stockport County.

League Two : ELLIOT NEWBY wasn't in Barrow's squad for the visit of leaders Bromley, who led at the break before substituting MARCUS DINANGA after 62 minutes, by which time Barrow were level, and went on to an unexpected 2-1 win. They leapfrogged Harrogate, but remain in the second relegation spot as both Crawley Town and Newport County also won.

The Welsh club scored the only goal against visitors Shrewsbury Town, for whom KEVIN BERKOE played the full game.

JOEL SENIOR (right) was another to play throughout as Bristol Rovers beat visitors Accrington Stanley 2-0.

National League : Brackley Town are 4 points from safety after losing by the only goal to visitors Tamworth, for whom KENNEDY DIGIE played the full game.

REGAN LINNEY put Carlisle United ahead at struggling Braintree Town, who levelled shortly before half time. The Cumbrians brought on CHRIS CONN-CLARKE as part of a triple substitution in the 65th minute, and they went to score an 89th minute winner.

JOSH LUNDSTRAM played the full match for Eastleigh at home to Forest Green Rovers, but despite being 2-0 up after 32 minutes they went on to lose 2-4.

Halifax were without BILLY WATERS for the visit of Scunthorpe United, who scored first before being pegged back. Although the Iron left ROSS BARROWS on their bench, they brought on DECLAN HOWE after 65 minutes, and predictably he struck after 82 minutes to give them a 1-2 win.

With MATT GOULD in his usual spot on the bench (can you get memory foam for benches?), Yeovil Town's KYLE FERGUSON scored after 96 minutes at Gateshead, but it was too little too late and they lost 2-1. KEATON WARD played the full game for the victors, and opened the scoring with a penalty, allowing them to pull 5 points clear of the trapdoor.

Morecambe were again without JOE NUTTALL, while visitors Aldershot won 0-2 without bringing MATT PENNEY off the bench.

Sutton United didn't include new loan signing DANNY CASHMAN against visiting leaders Rochdale, who were trailing in the 89th minute but then struck twice to win 1-2. York City would have gone top otherwise, beating visitors Woking by the only goal. JEFF KING played the full game for them, while ALEX NEWBY was a 91st minute substitute.

FA Trophy : Wealdstone will meet Southend United in the final at Wembley in May after seeing off visitors Marine with the only goal after 94 minutes. JACK HINCHY lasted 67 minutes.

Southend won their Wembley spot by coming from behind to win 1-3 at Southport, for whom LUKE BURGESS played the full match.

National North : CRAIG MAHON'S AFC Fylde comfortably beat visitors Darlington 4-1.GEORGE WILSON (right) replaced CHRIS MERRIE after 88 minutes.

DYLAN MOTTLEY-HENRY played the full game for Chester at Curzon Ashton where they won by the only goal. TOM PEERS was an 83rd minute substitute for the winners, while JOSH OLLERENSHAW was on the Curzon bench.

National South : MILES WELCH-HAYES played the whole of Maidenhead United's 1-2 home defeat by Weston-super-Mare, who knocked their hosts out of the playoff spots as a result.

Despite scoring twice in midweek, CALLUM DOLAN was again on the Torquay United bench for their home game against Horsham, and only joined the action after 62 minutes as they won 2-0.

Welsh Premier League Relegation Group : Although Bala Town led at the break at Cardiff Metropolitan, JOEL TORRANCE was beaten twice in the second half. Bala can only avoid relegation by winning both of their remaining games while Flint Town United lose both of theirs. Since they've won only one of their last 8 matches, this would appear unlikely.

NPL Premier Division : JONNY MARGETTS only came off the Gainsborough Trinity bench in the 89th minute, which didn't give him much chance to settle a goalless stalemate with visitors Warrington Rylands, whose captain, DEAN FURMAN, played the full game.

Lancaster City brought on AARON BENNETT (left) after 83 minutes at Hebburn Town, where they had led early through the veteran Simon Grand but now trailed 2-1. Alas Hebburn scored twice more.

Stockton Town dropped out of the playoff spots after surprisingly losing 3-0 at Hyde United, who climbed out of the relegation zone as a result. DONTAI GABIDON, who scored the third goal, played the full game, as did WILL HALL, while skipper JACK REDSHAW went off after 85 minutes, and JOE BUNNEY was an unused substitute.

ADAM PORTER played the full game, and HAYDEN CAMPBELL was a 79th minute substitute as Leek Town scored the only goal at relegation threatened Morpeth Town.

Prescot Cables remain in the drop zone after a 1-2 defeat at home by Ilkeston Town, despite SHARIF DEANS giving them the lead in the 15th minute.

Stocksbridge Park Steels are bottom of the league, despite a 2-0 home win over Ashton United, for whom JAMES HARDY put in a full shift.

Hednesford Town's promotion hopes suffered a major blow at resurgent Workington, who hit 3 without reply. MONTEL GIBSON was withdrawn after 80 minutes.

NPL Division 1 Midlands : ANDY DALES captained Mickleover to a 3-3 draw with visitors Boldmere St Michaels, for whom TOLANI OMOTOLA was a 77th minute substitute.

NPL Division 1 West : DAVID FITZPATRICK (right) played the full game for Avro, but they barely laid a glove on visitors Bootle who won 0-3, with TONY THOMPSON and TOM HANNIGAN playing throughout.

DAVE PARTON joined Tony in celebrating a clean sheet as Congleton Town saw off visitors Stafford Rangers 2-0. REMI RAYMOND was left on the Bears' bench.

Witton Albion had a convincing 0-3 win at Darlaston Town, with JAMES LAWRIE and DAMOLA SOTONA playing the full game.

SAM SHERIDAN captained Atherton Collieries at Lower Breck, but they never recovered from conceding 3 goals in 8 minutes during the first quarter of the game and lost 4-0.

There was a hat trick for BYRON HARRISON as Nantwich Town crushed visitors Sporting Khalsa 6-1. AIDY ROXBURGH came off after 58 minutes, and JOE PIGGOTT came on for his debut following his recent release by Bury.

The Shakers meanwhile went 4 points clear at the top of the league, winning 0-3 at Runcorn Linnets for whom RYAN BROOKE put in a full stint, with SEAN MILLER playing the full second half.

Shifnal Town lost ELLIOTT DURRELL to a first half injury, and lost 3-1 at Newcastle Town.

KYLE BROWNHILL (left) played the full game, while GREG WILKINSON was a 76th minute substitute, as Stalybridge Celtic moved up to 3rd with a 2-0 home win over Trafford.

Having been booked earlier, ASTLEY MULHOLLAND was withdrawn by Wythenshawe Town after 73 minutes as visitors Vauxhall Motors, whose captain KEVIN ELLISON came off in the 64 minute, crushed them 2-7. YASSINE TOURE wasn't in the Motors squad.

NWCL Premier Division : West Didsbury & Chorlton were already 4-0 down at AFC Liverpool by the time BEN ELLIOTT scored the last goal of the game from the penalty spot.

Player coach JOHN JOHNSTON scored Irlam's third goal in a 4-1 home win over Longridge Town.

This review of Saturday's action started in the east in Australia and ends in the west in the United States where in USL League One, SAM ROSCOE was booked as Corpus Christi lost 2-1 in the 93rd minute at Union Omaha. Whilst a haul of 2 points from 3 games is disappointing, it should be noted that those games - all away from home - have been against the teams currently occupying the top 3 places in the league table, so there is cause for optimism in Southern Texas.

28 March 2026

SOLIHULL MOORS 1-0 ALTRINCHAM

In a match of extremely poor quality, Altrincham succumbed to a 21st defeat of the season as Solihull ground their way to a first win in eleven outings at a windy Armco Arena.

The deciding moment came in the tenth minute when Sam Reed overran the ball leading to Sbarra finding the net.

Without loanee Declan Howe, following his recall to Scunthorpe, Altrincham were toothless and, at the back and in midfield, error-prone

Defeat dropped Altrincham to fifteenth.

Match report here.

BEFORE THE GAME: NEIL GIBSON

Alty manager Neil Gibson spoke to Alty TV in advance of Saturday's clash at Solihull.

Asked about Tuesday's draw at Boston, Neil said that "Tuesday's conditions were very favourable in the first half to Boston", so it was only in the second half that the gam plan could be restored.

As for Solihull's draw at Truro on Tuesday, the Alty manager referred to the Moors' post-match comments in which their boss was reportedly "focusing on three points against Altrincham".

Regarding injuries, the Alty players emerged "unscathed" on Tuesday night. Regarding the longer-term injured, he did not expect any to be in Saturday's squad.

However, he was able to report positive news about four players who he now expected to be fit to play before the end of the season, although they were unlikely to be seen in the next two or three fixtures.

The four players on the road to recovery are Matty Kosylo, Kian Bracken, Otis Khan and Olly Crankshaw.

The final part of the interview referred to a departure from Moss Lane in the shape of Strength & Conditioning Coach, Matthew Fox (above, right), who has left to take up a career opportunity.

BEFORE THE GAME: SOLIHULL MOORS

In a brief preview of Altrincham's visit Solihull Moors state that the Moors "will be looking to find some form when they come up against Altrincham after not winning any of their last 10 fixtures

Solihull come into this fixture sitting 17th in the National League and Altrincham sit 14th, winning three of their last five games".

Having played all but the last minute of normal time in Neil Gibson's first nine games in charge of Altrincham, few would have expected that, just three months later, Lewis Baines, the Altrincham captain in those games, would be plying his trade for the opposition to the Robins at Solihull today. However, he was ineligible to play against his parent club today

But that is the reality with Baines now out on loan to the Midlanders.

TYLOR GOLDEN INTERVIEW

Alty TV has Tom Jolley's brief video interview with Tylor Golden (pictured, right) , recorded on on Thursday morning.

He was asked about his "assist" for Alty's second goal at Boston, made from left wing-back, a newish position for him. Tylor's versatility with both feet has made him a regular starter under Neil Gibson.

Tylor also discussed the current intense sequence of fixtures and his approach to dealing with such a rapid turnaround from game to game.

DIRECTOR'S RESIGNATION CONFIRMED

As reported here on 22 March, Altrincham FC director Antonio Albert Valdes's resignation as a director of Altrincham AFC was registered by Companies' House on 18 March.

On Friday (27th) Altrincham FC issued the following confirmation...

"Altrincham FC director Albert Valdes has stepped down from his role on the Board of Directors after three years.

The American invested in the football club and joined the board at The J.Davidson Stadium in January 2023.

We thank Albert for his time with the Robins".

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

Alty travel to Surrey on Tuesday to face Woking who "confirm the loan signings of Steven Turner and Tommy Taylor from Ipswich Town for the remainder of the season.

Midfielder Steven Turner joins after captaining Ipswich’s Under-21 side on Monday night. The central midfielder also gained valuable senior experience earlier this year during a loan spell with Wealdstone FC.

Also arriving is attacking midfielder/forward Tommy Taylor, who recently returned from a loan spell with Cheltenham Town in the EFL.

Director of Football, Jody Brown, said, 'The deadline was yesterday and it’s important that we have cover and options to give us the best opportunity to finish well.

Steven and Tommy are players we looked at in the summer. Steven was a contingency plan if we hadn’t got Jake Forster-Caskey, and he plays in a similar way, but is obviously far less experienced.

His loan at Wealdstone will have helped him, but he now comes to us at a time where we have a lot of games, Roy Syla out, and the need for a player who is comfortable handling the ball and controlling tempo in deep areas.

Tommy was someone we tried to bring in, but Ipswich understandably opted to send him to the EFL. He has quality, can play as a 9 or 10...

Our relationship with Ipswich is a growing, and one we are grateful for. Mazionis and Boatswain were both successful".

Eastleigh "announce the signing of experienced defender, Jack Baldwin, who has joined the Spitfires on loan from Colchester United until the end of the season.

Baldwin comes to SO50 with a wealth of experience. He began his career at Hartlepool United, and made 85 appearances there, with 49 of them coming in League One.

Following his stint there, he would go on to spend four years at Peterborough United. He played 118 times for the Posh...

He would then move back up to the north-east to join Sunderland. During the 2018/19 campaign, he made 34 appearances, and found the back of the net on three occasions.

Following his time in Sunderland, Baldwin would go on to play for Bristol Rovers, Ross County, Northampton Town.

He joined Colchester United at the start of their 2025/26 League Two campaign".

Yeovil Town "confirm that Will Merry has joined the club on loan from Southampton until the end of the season.

Merry spent time on loan with Eastleigh during the 2023/24 season and has continued his development through Southampton’s academy system, featuring regularly in Premier League 2.

A forward who can play across the frontline, he adds further attacking options to the squad for the remainder of the campaign".

NEXT: SOLIHULL MOORS

Altrincham travel to face Solihull Moors on Saturday.

And now Solihull Moors "announce the signing of defender Daniel Cox, who joins the Club on loan until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old arrives from Derby County and can operate across the back line...

Prior to his time at Derby, Cox has also spent time with Walsall and Wealdstone".

GERMAN RETURNS TO CHORLEY

Altrincham "Midfielder Owen German has returned for a second loan spell at Enterprise National League North side Chorley.

The 21-year-old played eight times on loan with the Magpies before being recalled to The J.Davidson Stadium earlier this month.

Since returning to Alty, the former academy prospect has appeared once from the bench during the victory over Southend United".

Footnote: Owen started the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Alfreton Town but was recalled in mid-September. In his eighth inclusion in the first-team league squad he finally made his NL debut for Altrincham, from the bench, on 23 September 2025.

In mid-October 2025 it was announced that Owen was going on loan to Ashton United in the Northern Premier League until the end of 2025. However, this was curtailed in December and, in his third season as a professional at Alty, he finally made his full league debut on 30 December 2025, only to be sent off after just 16 minutes against Rochdale.

Owen then made 8 appearances for Chorley before returning to the JDS in mid-March 2026 but he returned on loan to Chorley in a loan announced on 26 March 2026.

HOWE RECALLED BY THE IRON

Altrincham FC report that "Forward Declan Howe has been recalled from his loan spell at The J.Davidson Stadium after parent club Scunthorpe United triggered a call-back clause.

The 27-year-old joined Alty in February and impressed during his eight Enterprise National League appearances with the Robins, scoring four times - most recently in the second half of Tuesday night's 2-2 draw at Boston United.

Thanks for the goals, Dec, and best of luck back at Scunthorpe".

Right: Declan Howe pictured during last Saturday's game against Southend United. In 608 minutes for Altrincham across his eight apperances, Declan netted four times.

POST-MATCH GIBSON

Alty TV has a post-match audio interview with Neil Gibson

The Alty boss described it as "a very strange game" in which the wind against Altrtincham in the first half was "unbelievably strong in the first half", a period in which the manager alleged that there were "a lot of soft freekicks given against us".

Neil indirectly explained the curious stoppage in the match when the referee came to talk to him. An alleged racist statement aimed at Kahrel reddin was reported of which Neil said "I won't be quiet about it". He stated that last season, when his Wealdstone side visited Boston, there was a similar incident.

Neil informed us that the Board had supported the team by funding a pre-match meal and a team meeting on the way to the match.

As for the equaliser and goalkeeper Luke Hutchinson's role in it, the boss said that the loanee keeper "has been brilliant for us" and that "no blame has been apportioned".

He also explained that Sam Barnes had been selected to start the game ahead of Jake Cooper as the latter was suffering a "niggle". Before his substiutution, "Barnsey was excellent for seventy minutes" he asserted.

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan's report takes us across the Atlantic in USL League One where Corpus Christi made the 1,130 mile journey to Tennessee to play One Knoxville, and SAM ROSCOE'S debut brought him a full shift, a yellow card, and a clean sheet as the game ended goalless despite Knoxville having 18 (6) shots to his team's 4 (1).

Back in England's National League, although Morecambe, without JOE NUTTALL, led twice, TYRESE SINCLAIR (right) set up the second equaliser for visitors Hartlepool United who went on to win 2-3.

ROSS BARROWS was an unused substitute for Scunthorpe United, who recovered from 0-2 down to hold visiting league leaders Rochdale 2-2.

Forest Green Rovers now face an almost impossible task to hit the seeded playoff spots, losing 1-0 at Tamworth, for whom KENNEDY DIGIE played throughout.

There was also a full shift from LEWIS BAINES as Solihull Moors came from behind to draw 1-1 at Truro City.l

KYLE FERGUSON also played the full game for Yeovil Town at Wealdstone, where they won 0-2 despite playing with 10 men from the 50th minute. MATT GOULD was in his usual place on the Glovers' bench.

NPL Division 1 West : Although ELLIOTT DURRELL put in a full stint for Shifnal Town, they lost 0-2 to visitors Nantwich Town, who withdrew both AIDY ROXBURGH and BYRON HARRISON after 79 minutes.

NEXT: SOLIHULL MOORS

Following Wednesday's fixtures which included a 1-1 draw for Solihull Moors at Truro City, Alty's opponents this Saturday have now played the same number of fixtures as the Robins.

The Moors are now two points and three places behind Altrincham ahead of the weekend clash.

Solihull Moors announced "the signing of forward Tobi Sho-Silva, who joins the Club on loan until the end of the season.

The forward arrives from Kidderminster Harriers and brings a wealth of experience across both the National League and the EFL. During his career, Sho-Silva has featured in League Two for Sutton United and Carlisle United, as well as enjoying a successful spell with FC Halifax Town.

Speaking on the signing, First Team Manager Chris Millington said 'Tobi is a great character and will bring energy and a physical presence to the front line. He will also have an impact off the pitch due to his experience and professionalism. We’re delighted to welcome him to the Moors.'"

Morecambe "confirm that it became aware yesterday afternoon of a winding up petition that had been filed against the Club seven days earlier by one of its suppliers, KPM Groundworks Limited, in relation to a legacy debt incurred prior to the takeover by Panjab Warriors in August.

This was the first notification the Club had received regarding this action.

Since becoming aware of the petition, the Club has been in immediate dialogue with both the supplier and its legal representatives, with the aim of reaching an agreement to have the petition withdrawn at the earliest possible opportunity.

The Club will continue to keep supporters informed and will provide a further update as soon as it is in a position to do so.

BOSTON UNITED 2-2 ALTRINCHAM

Not for the first time this season an added-time goal cost Altrincham points as, on this occasion, Boston United levelled the score in the fourth added minute. But Altrincham could have few real complaints after a first-half mauling which they survived with just a single goal conceded. Alty's two goals were their only efforts on target during the match, whereas the Pilgrims had nine such efforts.

With Knowles replacing Weaver and Barnes also starting, in place of Cooper, Alty faced a stiff wind in the first half and their discomfort was heightened by their own actions as they conceded four freekicks on the fringes of their penalty area as well as allowing a trio of goalbound shots from Hiwula.

The Pilgrims took a twelfth-minute lead when Barrington scored a fine goal from a good twenty yards out.

Right: Loanee Declan Howe has now scored four times in 7(+1) appearances for Altrincham

Altrincham were sent out early for the second half and, within two minutes, they were level. The goal was superbly constructed. Hutchinson fed Jones whose low, long ball up the left was skilfully let go by a clever Knowles dummy near half way.

This left Howe running free towards goal and the Scunthorpe loanee impressively dinked the ball past the advancing keeper and into the net (47 mins).

Altrincham took the lead with another well-made goal. This time, Humbles set Golden running on the left. He got past a defender and advanced along the left bye-line to feed Knowles who finished smartly from close range (63 mins).

It looked as if Altrincham were heading for just a fourth away win of the season until a corner from the Boston left appeared to be touched by Hutchinson at the near post but, rather then diverting it over the bar, the ball fell for substitute Cursons. to nod into the net from close range (90+5 mins). The Alty keeper was booked for protesting that the corner had curled out of play.

NEXT: SOLIHULL MOORS

The second match in Altrincham's three-match sequence of away games takes them to Solihull Moors on Saturday.

Now managed by former FC Halifax Town boss, Chris Millington, the Moors have a long midweek trek to face Truro tonight (Wednesday)

Before that fixture, the Moors lie three points and two places below Altrincham with a game in hand.

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports on Tuesday's games...

National League : MATT PENNEY (right) was an unused substitute as Aldershot found themselves two goals down to visitors Boreham Wood after only 16 minutes. Although they soon reduced the arrears, that was as good as it got, and they lost 1-2.

Eastleigh had their goalkeeper sent off after only 6 minutes, and JOSH LUNDSTRAM'S full shift was in vain as visitors Sutton United scored twice without reply.

A goal from REGAN LINNEY, who was booked after 81 minutes and substituted 2 minutes later, was enough to give Carlisle United the points at Halifax. CHRIS CONN-CLARKE for Carlisle, and BILLY WATERS for Halifax were both unused substitutes.

There was a major upset at the International Stadium as KEATON WARD (left) put Gateshead in front against title chasers York City, and then claimed the assist for the goal that gave them a 3-0 lead. York, who had ALEX NEWBY booked, did reduce the arrears in added time, but the defeat looks likely to consign them to the playoffs again (they loudly bemoaned the "unfairness" of the system when they failed to go up last season).

JEFF KING was a 73rd minute substitute for the Minstermen. The win lifts Gateshead out of the bottom four.

Gateshead's win underlines the fact that neither side will have been happy with Brackley Town's 1-1 home draw with Braintree Town which left both clubs in the bottom four.

National North : SAM HEATHCOTE, ELLIOTT OSBORNE (booked), and JAMES GALE, who scored their clincher before being substituted in the 84th minute, started for Macclesfield at Alfreton Town where they won 0-2. They left KACPER PASIEK (right) on the bench. LEWIS SALMON featured for the hosts.

National South : Returning from injury, CALLUM DOLAN came off the Torquay United bench after 65 minutes with visitors Dorking Wanderers a goal up. 15 minutes later he'd scored twice to turn the game on its head. However the Surrey team came back to draw 2-2.

NPL Premier Division : JONNY MARGETTS played 69 minutes for Gainsborough Trinity, but a single goal for visitors Bamber Bridge won the match.

NPL Division 1 West : DAVID FITZPATRICK put in a full shift for Avro at Kidsgrove Athletic, but they missed the chance to leapfrog leaders Bury, losing 3-1.

DAVE PARTON kept a clean sheet for Congleton Town as they won 0-3 at Newcastle Town. REMI RAYMOND was an unused substitute for the Bears.

NWCL Premier Division : JOHN JOHNSTON'S Irlam were saved from defeat at Wythenshawe when the floodlights failed as they trailed 3-0 after 73 minutes.

Sutton United "confirm the return of Toby Byron on a permanent deal from Worthing.

The tall centre back, who can also fill in at left back, rejoins Sutton after a stint in the U’s academy, as well as reuniting with Chris Agutter having been signed by the Head Coach last summer, and departs Woodside Park after appearing 28 times this season.

Hailing from Watford, Byron’s career began in the Luton Town academy... He later exited Kenilworth Road in order to join Hendon, following on from a brief stint in Sutton’s academy, appearing twice for the first team in the Surrey Senior Cup, before beginning to work his way up non-league football with the Greens, across two stints either side of a spell at Hertford Town, which preceded a move to Colney Heath.

Byron then spent a little over a year overseas in 2022, initially in Greece with Ermis Meligous before moving to French side US Ivry, before returning to England with Hornchurch ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The 25-year old spent just a few months in Upminster before joining Folkestone Invicta... before being lured away by the interest of Wingate & Finchley... He was rewarded with a move up to the National League South and Worthing, and he has been a regular figure at the heart of the Rebels’ backline, helping them sit third in the division...

Byron said 'It’s been a few years ago since I was here, but I’m back, older, and I’m ready to get going'".

Meanwhile, the BBC reports that "Truro City have signed Exeter City duo Tom Dean and Kieran Wilson on loan until the end of the season...

Defender Dean, 20, has joined at a time when Truro are dealing with a host of defensive injuries.

He has played 10 times for Exeter this season and joins his brother Will, who has been at the Cornish club since the summer of 2021.

Scottish forward Wilson, 18, has been on loan at National League South side Torquay United since November, scoring three goals in 17 league games.

Meanwhile, midfielder Caleb Roberts, 20, has been recalled from his loan by parent club Plymouth Argyle after six appearances for Truro".

ALTY IN TOWN

Boston United confirm that this evening sees "Altrincham poised to arrive in town.

The Robins provide the final midweek Pilgrim Way opposition of the season (kick-off 7.45pm), as Paul Hurst’s side attempt to bounce back from Saturday’s heavy defeat at Carlisle United...

Their afternoon unravelled when Frankie Maguire was red-carded. He will be suspended for the Altrincham encounter.

Hurst will assess his other selection options – with fit-again strikers Lenell John-Lewis and Jacob Hazel both named on the bench in Cumbria.

Last season’s corresponding fixture ended 1-0 to the Pilgrims as they edged towards completing their ‘great escape’ – while the Robins were 1-0 victors in this season’s reverse fixture".

BEFORE THE GAME: BOSTON UNITED

Last Saturday, Altrincham were without ten players, nine injured (Ross, Banks, Sass-Davies, Breckin, Khan, Olson, Kosylo, Crankshaw and Forde) and one suspended (Sassi). Sassi has served what is believed to be a four-match ban so should be in the squad tonight.

Right: Breckin and Sass-Davies pictured before the match against Southend United.

There was also encouragement for two other of Saturday's absentees, as Billy Sass-Davies and Kian Breckin were seen lapping the pitch before the game against Southend United.

Central defender Sass-Davies has yet to kick a ball in competitive action this season, after signing last summer after a spell at Hartlepool United, whilst Breckin lasted just thirteen minutes of his Alty debut. as a substitute, against Yeovil Town at the J. Davidson Stadium before being sidelined by an injury incurred in that game.

Neither is likely to be involved tonight but, hopefully, they will see some action before the end of the season.

TUESDAY NIGHT'S OPPOSITION: BOSTON UNITED

When Boston United visited Altrincham on Bonfire Night in 2025, it was Neil Gibson's first home game on charge of the Robins and the match provided him with his first win, 1-0, thanks to an Elliot Osborne penalty.

The Pilgrims go into tonight's return fixture lying one place and one point ahead of their guests but they haveplayed one more fixture this season.

HOME AND AWAY

Altrincham have the biggest disparity in the National League this season between points earned at home and away.

Only five teams, all in the top six, have won more games at home than Altrincham's eleven victories this season. In contrast, only one club, Truro City, bottom of the league, has won fewer away games than the Robins' three successes on the road in 2025-26.

And only the Tinners have earned fewer points than Altrincham away from home, ten points compared with 12 earned by Altrincham.

Whilst Jordan Richards has started the most league games for Boston (36), just behind him is former Altrincham centre-back CONNOR TEALE with 35 starts.

The Pilgrims' leading scorer is Lenell John-Lewis with ten league goals though Tom Cursons with seven goals from ten starts is more prolific. Cursons only joined the club in January 2026, signing from Harrogate Town.

WOMEN LOSE ON THE ROAD

Altrincham FC reports that the Club's "Women fell to defeat in their final away trip of the season, losing out 3-1 against Chester FC Women at the Deva Stadium in the North West Women’s Regional League Division One South.

The home side looked in complete control throughout the first half with Alty pinned back in their own half...

The hosts entered the break with a two-goal advantage.

The Robins started the second half much brighter but... Chester added a third...

Conceding didn’t knock back the Robins, who fought to get back in the game and pulled a goal back in the 74th minute. Francesca Boyle continued her goalscoring form, pouncing onto a long ball forward and showing great composure one-on-one...

It ended in disappointment at the Deva but delight back at Partington as the Elite U18s picked up a big 9-0 victory over Northwich Victoria U18. Megan Hunt netted a hattrick and Elise Fawkes scored her first two goals since joining from Airbus FC. Lottie Whitehead dispatched a penalty and Hannah Worrell a free kick, with defenders Isabella Molloy and Frankie Fraser-Jones also amongst the goals".

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports that JOE PIGGOTT has left Bury "by mutual consent".

The BBC reports that "Non-league Rushden & Diamonds have told BRUNO ANDRADE (left) and Tyler Winters to look for other clubs after an on-pitch fight led to both being sent off.

The two team-mates were shown red cards following the incident in the first half of Saturday's 3-0 defeat by Loughborough Students.

A club statement, external said Andrade and Winters had been told they would not be picked again for the remainder of the Northern Premier League Midlands Division season and they are 'free to pursue opportunities' elsewhere.

The statement continued 'The actions seen during the incident do not reflect the standards we expect of those representing AFC Rushden & Diamonds. As a fan-owned, community-driven club, we have a responsibility to uphold those standards and to act when they are not met...

Manager Elliott Sandy told BBC Radio Northampton that the actions of the pair had cost Diamonds the game...

Both players joined Diamonds last summer, 32-year-old Andrade on dual registration from Bedford Town...

Portugal-born Andrade has extensive experience in the game, his previous clubs including Queens Park Rangers, for whom he made his EFL debut in 2010, Wycombe Wanderers, Stevenage, Lincoln City and Salford City".

NEXT: BOSTON UNITED

Boston United, Altrincham's hosts on Tuesday night, crashed to a 6-2 defeat on Saturday against Carlisle United at Brunton Park.

From Cumbria, the News & Star reports that "Frustrated Boston United boss Paul Hurst said their game at Carlisle United looked 'too big' for some of his players.

The Pilgrims' manager admitted his side were not good enough as they fell to a 6-2 defeat at Brunton Park.

Boston led 2-1 at half-time but Hurst felt that flattered his side – and the visitors then failed to deal with Carlisle’s five-goal second-half salvo.

He said the overriding feeling was 'disappointment and not even the scoreline, really – more performance level. And more with the goals themselves.

'The scoreline…we can’t change it. It was pleasing to go in at half-time 2-1 up but I’m not going to stand here and make a false story up.

'The fans that travelled all this way deserve better than that. We weren’t good enough.

'We scored two excellent goals but we were fortunate to be ahead at the break. But sometimes you have to take that – you don’t always get what you deserve and on that occasion Carlisle probably hadn’t.

'We spoke about starting the second half well and straight away we didn’t. We make a terrible decision, then Jake [Rooney] puts himself under pressure [with a booking], and we had to take him off – he was feeling his hamstring and we didn’t want to play with ten men....

'As it worked out, we did end up playing with ten men because of the handball [by Frankie Maguire], which clearly changes the nature of the game'...

Boston could have gone 3-1 up when they hit the bar and had a follow-up effort cleared off the line... Hurst['s]...13th-placed side suffered only their second defeat in 11 games.

'[Too many players] just didn’t perform to their levels and it looked too much for them, the game'".

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports that in the French Ligue 1, it's been a long road back to fitness for MAXI OYEDELE, but, following his 18 minute cameo in Thursday's Europa Conference game, he started for Strasbourg on Sunday evening at Nantes.

The hosts led inside 6 minutes, but in added time at the end of the first half Maxi notched the equaliser - his first goal for the club. Nantes regained the lead 8 minutes after the restart, and 5 minutes later Maxi received a yellow card.

With 12 minutes of normal time remaining, Strasbourg levelled again - and in the 92nd minute they went ahead for the first time in the match, only needing to hang on for 4 more minutes to clinch a 2-3 victory, and for Maxi to complete a full shift at long last.

Earlier in the day in the South Korea K League 2, MARCUS DACKERS played the full game for Daegu at Busan, where they lost 3-1 despite having most of the possession, and more shots on goal - in fact their consolation effort was an own goal in the 97th minute.

THROUGH THE YEARS: 24 MARCH

The Through the Years data of Howard Watts and Mike Garnett for the date of Altrincham's next game, 24 March, tell us that back in 2018 Altrincham were away from home, as they will be again in 2026.

Back then the hosts were Halesowen Town as Altrincham spent a season in the Northern Premier League. This was Altrincham's first visit to Halesowen, having won the reverse encounter 3-0. However, despite Alty being top of the table and Halesowen being second-bottom, the Yeltz had secured three wins in their previous five matches compared with a sole win for Alty in the same number of games, all of which had been at home.

After their recent run of poor home results, Altrincham were back to much better form at Halesowen in what was only their second away match in ten weeks, thanks to postponements and a run of home fixtures assigned by the league. But for wayward shooting, especially in the second half, Altrincham would have won by a wider margin against a Halesowen side which kept going to the end.

Alty took the lead in the eleventh minutes after attacking relentlessly from kick off. Jordan Hulme netted the goal after a superb jinking run into the box by John Johnston.

Despite losing Tom Hannigan to injury after 32 minutes, Alty doubled their lead seven minutes later when Simon Richman scored from close range, following a pass from Hulme.

Above: Simon Richman is congratulated on his goal at Halesowen.

Alty kept their first clean sheet for ten weeks but failed to add to their own score in the second half. Results elsewhere helped Alty to extend their lead at the top of the table to four points.

ALTRINCHAM: 1. Tim DEASY, 2. Shaun DENSMORE, 3. Andy WHITE, 4. Tom HANNIGAN, 5. Ben HARRISON, 6. Jake MOULT (c), 7. John JOHNSTON, 8. Simon RICHMAN, 9. Jordan HULME, 10. James POOLE, 11. Josh HANCOCK. Subs: 12. Tom PEERS, 14. Max HARROP, 15. Chris MERRIE, 16. Sam HEATHCOTE, 17. James JONES.

Closer to home FC United of Manchester are "delighted to host newly reborn Flixton FC and welcome back our former players Alex Mortimer and Rhodri Giggs as Flixton's managers".

FCUM recall that "21 years ago, Flixton gave us one of our first ever games - a pre-season friendly at Valley Road in August in 2005. We’re honoured to return the favour now, as Flixton build up towards their first season of competitive football since 2012.

On Tuesday 2nd August 2005, [ex-Alty man] STEVE TORPEY, now Academy Director at Manchester United, sealed his place in history by scoring our first-ever goal in a 5-2 win over Flixton. Torpey scored again from the penalty spot and further goals were added by Steve Spencer, [ex-Alty Reserve] ADIE ORR and Greg Randles as the Reds claimed our first-ever victory!

Around 1,600 supporters were in attendance with no idea what the next two decades had in store, but they all agreed on one thing - Love United, Hate Glazer!

ALTRINCHAM 1-0 SOUTHEND UNITED

A fourth win in six outings for Altrincham moved them up to fourteenth and left Southend back outside the play-off places into which they had moved in midweek.

Match report here.

NEIL GIBSON'S VIEW

Alty TV has Brian Flynn's post-match interview with manager Neil Gibson.

Right: Lucas Weaver has now started two consecutive league games for the first time this season.

He told Alty TV that "the players were excellent to a man" as they executed the game plan.

Regrding the goal, he felt that Liam Humbles "took his opportunity really well" but he also praised Declan Howe for keeping the ball alive.

The goal followed a corner and the Alty boss praised Andy Morrison for doing a session with the players and also his assistant Lee Jones who handles the set-pieces in training.

Neil feels that "We invite too much pressure at times", which may in part be down to fatigue but "I want us to be higher up the field".

Neil pointed out that Saturday was the fourth clean sheet in sveven outings.

Asked by Brian why Alty had the least drawn games in the division, just four, Neil explained that "we focus on going for the win" rather than settling for draws.

Finally, he paid "huge credit to the ground staff" for producing such an excellent playig surface; he believes it was "a huge contributory factor to our home form is down to the playing surface".

SOUTHEND VIEW

The statistics of the game against Southend United were reported as follows:
  • Possession 50/50
  • Shots: Altrincham 7 Southend 16
  • Shots on target: Altrincham 3 Southend 5
  • Corners: Altrincham 5 Southend 8

Southend United "head coach Kevin Maher lamented the quality of his side's shooting in our 1-0 defeat to Altrincham.

Overall Maher felt "We played too easy"... "We lacked a little intensity, we though we would just play nice football".

Given "the amount of shots the quality of our shooting was really poor", he concluded.

Maher was criticla of a "flat first half... we waited for something to happen like we [just] came for a nice game of football today".

ALTY DIRECTOR RESIGNS

Companies House reports that Antonio Albert Valdes resigned as a director of Altrincham FC on 18 March 2026. He had been in post since 1 January 2023.

Based in Texas, Valdes was reportedly Altrincham's largest shareholder.

  • John Coyne (appointed to Board 24/1/20)
  • Sam Mackenzie (Chief Executive Officer) (appointed to Board as a director 15/5/21)

NEXT: BOSTON UNITED

Alty now have eight games left this season, three at home and five away. Three of those away games are the next three fixtures for Altrincham, starting this Tuesday at Boston United.

The Pilgrims were hammered 6-2 at Carlisle on Saturday but had been leading 1-2 before losing a man to a red card.

ALTY OLD BOYS

From Phil Jordan comes a comprehensive review of the Saturday activities of former ALtrincham players and loanees.

League One : ALI SMITH played the full game for AFC Wimbledon, who led at half time before drawing 1-1 with visitors Peterborough United.

Wycombe Wanderers were reduced to 10 men in the 9th minute at Leyton Orient, but were only 1-0 down when they brought JUNIOR QUITIRNA (left) off the bench. However Orient scored a clincher in added time.

All the goals at Sincil Bank came in the first half, as Lincoln City beat Rotherham United 3-0. DUNCAN WATMORE lasted 65 minutes for the Millers.

Plymouth Argyle trailed to visitors Huddersfield Town at the break, and had seen OWEN DALE booked. However, his 47th minute equaliser set his team on the way to a 3-1 win.

CARL PIERGIANNI captained Stevenage to a 1-0 home win over Reading.

League Two : JAMES BERRY played 85 minutes for Chesterfield, who scored the game's only goal at Accrington Stanley.

MARCUS DINANGA played the second half for Bromley, who also needed only a single goal to beat visitors Colchester United.

JOEL SENIOR played throughout for Bristol Rovers, who came from behind at Gillingham to win 1-2.

Barrow were already 2-0 down at Grimsby Town when they withdrew ELLIOT NEWBY at half time. It didn't help matters. The Mariners had extended their lead by the time they brought on JUSTIN AMALUZOR (right) after 62 minutes, and he was credited with the assist for the final goal in a 5-0 drubbing which leaves Barrow bottom of the league.

Cheltenham Town opened the scoring at Meadow Lane, and, having gone behind, they were level 2-2 at the break. However they were 2 goals and a man down by the time they withdrew JAKE BICKERSTAFF after 85 minutes, and Notts County struck again to win 5-2.

A full shift from Shrewsbury Town's KEVIN BERKOE was in vain, as visitors Crewe Alexandra hit 4 goals without reply.

Scottish Premiership : JOE HUGILL put Kilmarnock ahead at home to bottom club Livingston, and then claimed the assist for the clincher as they won 2-0.

Scottish Championship : KIAN TAYLOR was an unused substitute as Morton won by the only goal at Ayr United.

National League : MATT PENNEY was an unused substitute for Aldershot as they lost 3-2 at Woking.

KEATON WARD was withdrawn after 69 minutes as Gateshead lost 3-0 at Boreham Wood.

ROSS BARROWS was a 22nd minute substitute for Scunthorpe United, picking up a yellow card as they recovered from conceding in the opening minute to win 2-3 at Braintree Town.

Boston United had CONNOR TEALE booked at Carlisle United, but led 1-2 at half time. However they had a man sent off after 61 minutes, and REGAN LINNEY converted the resulting penalty, going on to claim the assist for the goal that rounded off a 6-2 win.

CHRIS CONN-CLARKE was again left on the bench, and one suspects that the Cumbrian club are hesitant to make his loan from Peterborough United permanent.

Wealdstone withdrew JACK HINCHY after 62 minutes at Forest Green Rovers, and a minute later Robbie Savage's team scored the goal that clinched a 2-0 win.

Eastleigh's JOSH LUNDSTRAM played the full game at Hartlepool United, where they lost 1-0. The hosts withdrew TYRESE SINCLAIR after 87 minutes.

KENNEDY DIGIE played the full game for Tamworth, who came from behind to lead briefly at Rochdale before finally going down 3-2.

KYLE FERGUSON played the full match, while MATT GOULD was an unused substitute as Yeovil Town beat visitors Morecambe 3-2. JOE NUTTALL was an 87th minute substitute for the Shrimps.

ALEX NEWBY played the full game for York City, who withdrew JEFF KING after 62 minutes, as they comfortably beat Brackley Town 4-0.

Solihull Moors, with LEWIS BAINES playing the full game, had a bad evening, going down 0-3, and finishing with 10 men against Halifax, who brought on BILLY WATERS after 87 minutes.

National North : Captained by CONNOR KIRBY, Buxton won 3-0 at home to a Bedford Town team who finished with 9 men.

Chester led through DYLAN MOTTLEY-HENRY, but Southport took the points with 2 goals in added time.

Macclesfield had SAM HEATHCOTE, JAMES GALE (right), and ELLIOTT OSBORNE in their starting line up against visitors Hereford, and a minute's silence in memory of MERRICK CORFIELD was observed before kick off.

Hereford were reduced to 10 men just before the end of a goalless first half, and Sam was replaced at the interval. With the goal action in their 3-1 win completed, Macc brought on MIKEY STONE in the 93rd minute, but KACPER PASIEK stayed on the bench.

Having gone clear at the top of the league, AFC Fylde hit a bump in the road, losing 1-0 at Worksop Town, who were without LUKE WATERFALL, but brought on SAM WEDGBURY in the 84th minute. CHRIS MERRIE started for the Coasters, and GEORGE WILSON joined him after 71 minutes. Their lead has been cut to a single point after South Shields won 4-1 at home against Merthyr Town.

Welsh Premier Championship Group : Connah's Quay Nomads were level 1-1 at home to Penybont when they were reduced to 10 men in the 92nd. Despite that setback, they scored the winner 3 minutes later. JAMES JONES played throughout.

NPL Premier Division : Hyde United were overtaken in the relegation zone by their visitors Workington, who scored the only goal. WILL HALL returned from suspension to captain the Tigers, and DONTAI GABIDON also played throughout but was booked. JACK REDSHAW and MAX HARROP were 72nd minute substitutes, and were joined 10 minutes later by JOE BUNNEY.

JONNY MARGETTS played the full game as Gainsborough Trinity drew 1-1 at Rushall Olympic.

A MONTEL GIBSON equaliser earned Hednesford Town a 1-1 draw at Rushall Olympic.

Warrington Rylands skipper DEAN FURMAN was substituted after 75 minutes, as visitors FC United were 2-0 up, and despite conceding a late goal the men from North Manchester held on to win, and leapfrog Hebburn Town at the top of the league.

The Tynesiders were surprisingly held 0-0 at home by Prescot Cables, for whom SHARIF DEANS played throughout.

NPL Division 1 West : SAM SHERIDAN captained Atherton Collieries to a 1-1 home draw with Kidsgrove Athletic.

JOE PIGGOTT wasn't in Bury's squad as they stayed top of the league with a 2-1 home win over Bootle. Both TONY THOMPSON and TOM HANNIGAN played throughout for the Merseyside team. Meanwhile second placed Avro, with DAVID FITZPATRICK playing the whole match, kept up the pressure on the Shakers, coming from behind to win 1-2 at Chasetown.

REMI RAYMOND wasn't in Congleton Town's squad for their 2-2 home draw with Clitheroe, but keeper DAVE PARTON played throughout.

BYRON HARRISON (left) played the full 71 minutes as Nantwich Town, who were 3-1 up at home to Darlaston Town, saw their game abandoned after a visiting player was abused. AIDY ROXBURGH was an unused substitute.

Incidentally, Darlaston's player manager Exodus Geohaghon was a 41st minute substitute, which was quite apt as he's now 41 years old. I wonder he still delivers that "Exocet" throw in that he specialised in at Nuneaton?

SEAN MILLER was a 56th minute substitute for Runcorn Linnets, while they withdrew RYAN BROOKE 19 minutes later as they won 2-0 at home against Wythenshawe Town, for whom ASTLEY MULHOLLAND put in a full shift.

Vauxhall Motors were again missing YASSINE TOURE at Sporting Khalsa, but KEVIN ELLISON played for 62 minutes, opening the scoring in his team's 1-4 win.

Lower Breck appear to have imploded, and lost 2-0 at Stalybridge Celtic. KYLE BROWNHILL played the full game for the hosts, while GREG WILKINSON was an unused substitute.

JOEL BEMBO-LETA, JAMES LAWRIE, and DAMOLA SOTONA all played the whole of Witton Albion's 2-3 home defeat by Shifnal Town, while BEN HARRISON came off their bench in the 95th minute.

However it was the visitors' 66th minute substitute ELLIOTT DURRELL who stole the headlines as he scored the 2 goals that whipped the game away from Albion after 91 and 95 minutes.

NWCL Premier Division : BEN ELLIOTT equalised from the penalty spot for West Didsbury & Chorlton, but just 2 minutes later visitors Padiham scored again to win 1-2.

Welsh Premier League Relegation Group : JOEL TORRANCE kept a clean sheet as Bala Town won 1-0 at home to Haverfordwest, their first win since January 13th, and only the second since October 31st last year.

ALTRINCHAM 1-0 SOUTHEND UNITED.

A fourth win in six outings for Altrincham moved them up to fourteenth and left Southend back outside the play-off places into which they had moved in midweek.

On a sunny afternoon at the J. Davidson Stadium, the hosts were without ten players, nine injured (Ross, Banks, Sass-Davies, Breckin, Khan, Olson, Kosylo, Crankshaw and Forde) and one suspended (Sassi).

Above: Alty's Golden, Humble and Weaver look into the sun as they defend a threat from Southend United

After a fairly even opening period, Altrincham won their second corner of the afternoon when Weaver went close following Crawford's ball from the left, which was heped on by Howe.

From the corner, taken from the right, the ball came back from beyond the back post and out to Humbles who drove the ball into the net from inside the box (14 mins).

But, otherwise, the Altrincham defence limited the visitors' opportunities and the Robins enjoyed several threatening attacks themselves.

The win leaves Altrincham with a game in hand on two of the three clubs who are currently within two points of them in twelfth and thirteenth places.

BEFORE THE GAME: SOUTHEND UNITED.

On the eve of their match at the J. Davidson Stadium, Southend United were "delighted to announce the arrival of Alfie Massey on loan from Millwall for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

The 20-year-old midfielder made 10 National League appearances while on loan at Wealdstone earlier this season...

Massey said... 'I like to get on the ball as much as possible and spray passes about from a little bit deeper, and when we get up the pitch I’ll be in and around the edge of the box, hoping for the ball to fall out and have a shot'.

Massey spent time in the academies of West Ham United and Arsenal before progressing through Millwall’s under-18s and under-21s teams...

In August 2025, Massey joined Wealdstone on loan to build up his senior minutes. During his short spell in North West London, the midfielder found the net on two occasions – both efforts from outside the box.

'It was good for me to get some exposure to men’s football and the National League so I know a bit about it,' Massey continued...

Head coach Kevin Maher added 'Looking at the injuries we have and the deadline coming up next week, we needed to make sure we had cover in that position...

Massey will wear the number 20 shirt".

BEFORE THE GAME: JIMMY KNOWLES

Altrincham's top scorer, Jimmy Knowles (right), was interviewed on Alty TV in advance of the match against Southend and he stated that "I fancy us at home against anyone".

Asked about playing with recent arrival, loanee Declan Howe, Jimmy said that he way happy t oplay "anywhere in the forward line".

Jimmy has fourteen goals to his name in a team which has had its struggles this season but he would be happy to reach 20 goals which he feels "is always a good target".

BEFORE THE GAME: NEIL GIBSON

Manager Neil Gibson spoke to Alty TV about last week's late defeat at Scunthorpe. He felt that Alty "were really good for 60/65 minutes" but then the team lost its way. He judged that the players "accepted that we'd rely on the counter-attack" which was not the planned approach.

In fact, he felt that the side has a recurring "trait in not keeping our foot on the pedal in the last 25/30 minutes of games".

Given that we have a full eleven of injured players, with the fit ones not always playing in their favoured roles, the manager confirmed that for every game we have a Plan A, B and C. Also when teams like Scunthorpe set up in an unexpected way we have to be adaptable after the game has started.

Indeed, Neil pointed out that "the players we've signed have brought adaptability". He pointed out that it has taken teams like Rochdale and York City some time to get to their current standards whereas Altrincham have not had that continuity this season.

As for today's opponents, Southend United, Neil asserted that the Shrimpers "play really on the front foot and run all over you when they are at their best". Nevertheless, the boss thinks that "there are areas in which to cause them problems".

With six games to play in the next seventeen days, Altrincham's manager hopes to push on towards the top ten.

ALTY OLD BOYS

From Phil Jordan we learn that on Friday in Premier League 2, SONNY ALJOFREE has recovered from injury, and returned to captain Manchester United U21 at Reading, where they won by the only goal.

Norwich City U21 again left CALEB ANSEN on the bench as they beat visitors West Bromwich Albion U21 4-1.

Irish Premier Division : BARRY BAGGLEY returned to his former stamping ground at Waterford, and played the full game for St.Patrick's as they won 0-2.

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

Wealdstone's "Board of Directors is delighted to announce that the club's future at Grosvenor Vale has been secured by the signing of a new lease expiring on May 31, 2036...

The new agreement will meet the recently-introduced tenure requirements of both The National League and The English Football League.

It should be noted that the lease contains strong incentives for the club to vacate the site by May 31, 2031, allowing Wealdstone FC the time to continue its firm focus on developing plans for a long-term future elsewhere within the Borough of Hillingdon".

Meanwhile, Woking "announce that Timmy Akinola has signed a new two-year deal, extending his stay until the summer of 2028.

Timmy has played 41 games so far this season and has quickly become adored by the Woking faithful. The midfielder has 3 goal involvements and has made many defensive contributions....

Director of Football, Jody Brown, said... 'It took longer than I had expected for Timmy to break into our team on a regular basis, and there were times where he was doubting his decision to sign here given his lack of playing opportunities.

'He showed great determination and resilience to overcome those obstacles, and those attributes have become a feature of his performances, cementing himself as an integral part of our plans moving forward...

'There has been some genuine interest in Timmy from other clubs, including formal offers that we have turned down. We feel that this deal is an illustration of the belief from both the club and the player in what can be achieved here at our football club during the coming seasons.'”

Yeovil Town "confirm the signing of Delano McCoy-Splatt, who joins the Glovers on loan for the remainder of the season.

McCoy-Splatt began his development with Dulwich Hamlet before joining the academy at Fulham in 2016. He progressed through the ranks to captain the club’s Under-18 side and later stepped up to the Under-21s.

Following his departure from Fulham in the summer of 2025, McCoy-Splatt signed for AFC Wimbledon... At international level, he has represented Jamaica national football team...

[He is] a technically gifted midfielder with strong experience in elite academy environments".

The Deck reports that "Rochdale loanee Oliver Whatmuff will miss matches against Scunthorpe and Sutton after being called up to the England U19s.

A potentially big blow for Rochdale in their title pursuit".

The Manchester City loanee will thereore miss Rochdale's fixtures against Scunthorpe United and Sutton United

NEXT: SOUTHEND UNITED

Altrincham will be facing Southend United on Saturday without, potentially, a full team of eleven absentees. Nine were out injured last weekend, namely Ross, Banks, Sass-Davies, Breckin, Khan, Olson, Kosylo, Crankshaw and Forde.

In addition, Sassi is believed to remain suspended having picked up a four-match ban for his second red card of the season.

During the match at Scunthorpe last week, Isaac Marriott (right) had to be substituted with injury so, he too must be a doubt at the weekend.

But loanee Declan Howe should be back after being ineligible against his employers last Saturday.

ACADEMY ACTIVITY

Over the past three weeks, Altrincham's under-19 side has played three league fixtures which have comprised a comfortable win and two defeats by margins of two and three goals.

First up, in the National Football Youth League NW Championship 1, on 4 March the Steven Gerrard Academy NWC entertained Altrincham FC U19 with the Merseysiders winning 4-1.

The team was Christopher Antoniades, Theo Bunting, Afernee Denise, Rafael Fereday, John Gbolagun, Josh Herreaman, Kian Leckey, Callum McCormack, Benjamin Mensah, William Sneyd, Jimmy Taafe. Subs: William Molloy, Connor Summerfield, Thomas Tattersall, Nathaniel Ikponmwen

On the bench were John Gbolagun, Connor Summerfield, Thomas Tattersall, Nathaniel Ikponmwen

The goals came from Sneyd (2), Denise, McCormack, Mensah and Ikponmwen.

William Sneyd has produced a match report.

And finally, on Wednesday this week, 18 March 2026, Altrincham FC U19 lost at Egerton Sports Club 1-3 to visitors Radcliffe FC U19.

As for the senior Academy side three games have been played in March so far.

On 4 March Altrincham lost 2-3 at home to AFC Fylde at Cheadle Heath Sports Club.

A week later on 11 March history repeated itself with another 2-3 home defeat, this time against Chester FC. But, most recently, on 18 March it was a happier outcome as Alty won 0-3 at AFC Fylde.

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports on Thursday's action...

Europa Conference League Shortly after Strasbourg had made it 1-1 on the night, and put themselves 3-2 up against the Croatian side Rijeka, MAXI OYEDELE, who was absent ill at the weekend, came off the bench, and by the end of added time he'd put in a 23 minute shift. There were no further goals in the game, and Strasbourg will play the German team, Mainz, in the quarter finals.

And in a rare Thursday fixture in National North, LEWIS SALMON scored for Alfreton Town after just 11 seconds as they beat visitors Hereford 2-1. JUSTIN DONAWA was an unused substitute for the Bulls.

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

Boreham Wood won the National League Cup in midweek, defeating West Ham United under-21s in a shootout after a 2-2 draw.

The wood shared "the following message from Mike Field of the West Ham United Fan Advisory Board ahead of tonight’s National League Cup Final clash at the Mangata Developments Stadium Meadow Park.

'In total contrast to the greed we see at PL level the Boreham Wood Chairman has offered free tickets to season ticket holders of both clubs. As a result, his club will actually make a loss for hosting a cup final. An extraordinary gesture so rare in today’s football and one he should be applauded for.

They will be selling souvenir programmes, and there is a bar and food available in our section, let’s spend a few bob in the ground and help a club not looking to exploit fans at every opportunity. I still want us to win of course, but Boreham Wood deserve a great night.

Please pass on our respect and thanks to your Chairman for a wonderful gesture. Obviously, we want our club to win but best wishes for a great night to all at Boreham Wood.'”

NEXT: SOUTHEND UNITED

On Saturday, Altrincham host seventh-placed Southend United in a 3pm kick-off.

On Tuesday, The Shrimpers had an impressive win at Roots Hall over league leaders Rochdale.

Southend United reported that "A scintillating first half performance from Southend United put them on their way to a superb three points at home against Rochdale.

The goals came from Andrew Dallas, James Golding and Tom Hopper in a stunning 45 minutes against the league leaders which in turn ended the Dale’s 15-game unbeaten run.

Emmanuel Dieseruvwe and Casey Pettit were on the scoresheet in either half for the visitors but it wasn’t enough, and the Shrimpers ran out 3-2 winners to make it back-to-back victories.

Following Saturday’s win over Forest Green, head coach Kevin Maher made one change with Sam Austin replacing Oli Coker in midfield.

It was another fast start from the Shrimpers... and again the deadlock was broken with just minutes on the clock... Not long after Southend made it two...

The visitors responded and pulled a goal back...

Devante Rodney sent a powerful shot just over from 18 yards and a minute later, Southend made him pay as the two-goal buffer was restored...

The win takes Southend back into the play-off places above of Halifax Town ahead of a trip to Altrincham at the weekend".

The BBC adds that "Southend United boss Kevin Maher is hoping that a hip problem which forced full-back Gus Scott-Morriss off the pitch in Tuesday's win over National League leaders Rochdale is nothing serious.

As well as his defensive role, Scott-Morriss has scored 29 goals for the Shrimpers in the past two seasons - 12 of them in the current campaign.

'At half-time he stiffened up a bit but wanted to get out there for the second half,' Maher told BBC Essex Sport. <> 'You could see it tightening up and we couldn't take any risks. We'll have to see how he settles down'.

Southend are unbeaten in five games in March, but have another four to play before the end of the month - the next at Altrincham on Saturday".

THROUGH THE YEARS: 21 MARCH

This Saturday, 21 March is not an auspicious date for Altrincham, as Howard Watts and Mike Garnett's Through the Years data show.

When Southend United visit on Saturday it will be the tenth successive Altrincham fixture played on the date of 21 March since 1977 and the Robins have failed to win any of the previous nine encounters!

The last four matches on 21 March were all at home, with the most recent of those games, a lamentable home defeat in the CSC to Winsford United in 2018 being the nadir.

The last league game on 21 March was a 3-1 defeat at Moss Lane by Nuneaton Town in 2017

Above: As ever, Simon Richman battled for everything against Nuneaton Town in 2017. Here he is seen by the camera of Michael Ripley.

ALTY OLD BOYS

On Wednesday, in the NPL Division 1 West, ELLIOTT DURRELL was an unused substitute for Shifnal Town as they lost 1-2 to visitors Chasetown, reports Phil Jordan.

Phil also informs us that in National North, although he remains a Dagenham & Redbridge player, ASHLEY HEMMINGS moved on from his loan at former club Kidderminster Harriers at the end of last month, and is now at Oxford City where he has already featured three times.

His debut came from the bench after 86 minutes of his new club's 1-2 win at King's Lynn, and he then came on after 55 minutes as the lost 0-2 at home to Scarborough Athletic.

Ashley (right) started at Curzon Ashton, scoring City's equaliser after they'd gone behind early, and played the whole of a 2-2 draw.

On Saturday he played 91 minutes as City won 1-3 at Southport. Their haul of 7 points from the last 12 on offer has lifted them out of the bottom 4, but they still have work to do.

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

Morecambe "confirm that the National League has lifted the embargo previously placed on the Club.

As previously communicated on Thursday 05 March, the Club was placed under embargo earlier this month following a payment issue relating to a commercial dispute with Bond Group Investments...

This development follows extensive lobbying and the provision of additional detailed information to the National League by the Club’s owners and senior management... The Club remains fully committed to meeting all National League regulations and ensuring long-term stability both on and off the pitch.

18 March 2026

NEXT: SOUTHEND UNITED

Before they visit Altrincham on Saturday, Southend United took on league leaders Rochdale at Roots Hall on Tuesday night and recorded an impressive 3-2 win.

As a consequence the Shrimpers will arrive at the J. Davidson Stadium in the play-off places, lying seventh, making it Altrincham's second successive match against play-off contenders following last week's late defeat at Scunthorpe United. Southend also have two games in hand on all of the teams above them so their play-off place is looking increasingly strong.

Last night's results also mean that there are now nine teams who cannot match Altrincham's potential maximum points haul this season.

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports on Tuesday's games...

League One: ALI SMITH put in a full shift for AFC Wimbledon, who came from behind to lead visitors Leyton Orient 2-1 at half time. However Orient forward Dominic Ballard, who had scored the opener, went on to complete his hat trick as they won 2-4.

It was goalless at Cardiff City when JUNIOR QUITIRNA came off the Wycombe Wanderers bench, but the Bluebirds had gone down to 10 men after 43 minutes, and Wycombe went on to score twice without reply.

Rotherham United were already 3-0 down at Peterborough United when DUNCAN WATMORE was withdrawn after 74 minutes, and they went on to lose 5-0.

Plymouth Argyle beat visitors Stevenage 1-0. Argyle substituted OWEN DALE after 79 minutes, while Stevenage withdrew CARL PIERGIANNI after 90 minutes.

Wigan Athletic's joint caretaker-manager GRAHAM BARROW (right, pictured with John King) was booked shortly after Barnsley had recorded a 96th minute equaliser against the Latics at Oakwell. The visitors had been reduced to ten men shortly before the end of the 90 minutes.

League Two: ELLIOT NEWBY came off the Barrow bench after 59 minutes at Salford City with his side already a goal down, and they eventually lost 3-1. The result leaves them bottom of the league as Harrogate Town won 0-3 at Tranmere Rovers, who are still without CONNOR JENNINGS.

MARCUS DINANGA was a 57th minute substitute for Bromley, who scored the only goal at Newport County.

Bristol Rovers scored the only goal at home to Shrewsbury Town. JOEL SENIOR for the hosts, and KEVIN BERKOE for the visitors, both played throughout.

A JAKE BICKERSTAFF goal gave Cheltenham Town the lead, but he was booked before visitors Crewe Alexandra scored late on to force a 1-1 draw.

Chesterfield were 0-2 down to visitors Oldham Athletic at the break, but the introduction of JAMES BERRY for the second period was fruitless as Latics added a third goal.

It was goalless when Grimsby Town brought JUSTIN AMALUZOR off the bench after 72 minutes, and they eventually scored the only goal in the 96th minute to beat visitors Fleetwood Town, who were without both HARRISON HOLGATE and TOBY MULLARKEY.

National League : LEWIS BAINES (right) played the full game for Solihull Moors, who were ahead at Brackley Town when the hosts were reduced to 10 men after 62 minutes, and will doubtless be disappointed that they still managed to come back and draw 1-1.

KEATON WARD was booked in the 82nd minute, and withdrawn 3 minutes later, as Gateshead won 1-0 at home to Wealdstone.

ROSS BARROWS was a 28th minute substitute for Scunthorpe United as they won 1-2 at Truro City.

Yeovil Town withdrew KYLE FERGUSON in the 90th minute at Woking, where they lost 1-0. MATT GOULD was, as usual, an unused substitute.

National North: SAM HEATHCOTE, JAMES GALE, ELLIOTT OSBORNE, and KACPER PASIEK all started for Macclesfield at AFC Telford, but Kacper was substituted after 52 minutes when they were trailing 2-0, and Elliott came off 18 minutes later. Telford made it 3-0 from the spot in added time. The chastened Silkmen left MIKEY STONE on the bench.

OWEN GERMAN played the full game for Chorley, who beat visitors Kidderminster Harriers 1-0. Harriers were lacking all of ASHLEY HEMMINGS, DAN MOONEY, and KOLE HALL. The latter pair are unlikely to play again this season.

A 3-0 defeat for South Shields at King's Lynn meant that CRAIG MAHON'S AFC Fylde moved 4 points clear at the top with their 1-4 win at Hereford. JUSTIN DONAWA played the full game for the Bulls, while CHRIS MERRIE started for Fylde, but gave way to GEORGE WILSON after 74 minutes.

LEWIS SALMON put Alfreton Town ahead at Southport, but they eventually lost 2-1.

Professional Development League : JACK KINGDON captained Cardiff City U21 as they won at home 2-1 against PHIL PARKINSON'S Fleetwood Town U21.

NPL Premier Division: JONNY MARGETTS came off the Gainsborough Trinity bench to score the clincher as they downed visitors Hyde United 2-0. DONTAI GABIDON (right) played the full game for Hyde, JACK REDSHAW and MAX HARROP were late substitutes, and JOE BUNNEY wasn't called off the bench.

NPL Division 1 Midlands : ANDY DALES came on for Mickleover at the start of the second half, but they lost 3-1 at Carlton Town.

NPL Division 1 West : Trafford, without SEAN HIGGINS, produced a massive shock at Shawe View, beating promotion hopefuls Lower Breck 4-0. The result enabled them to climb off the bottom of the league for the first time this season at the expense of Wythenshawe Town.

Bootle's faint promotion hopes took a blow as they lost 1-3 at home to Stalybridge Celtic. TONY THOMPSON and TOM HANNIGAN played throughout for Bootle, as did KYLE BROWNHILL for Celtic.

NWCL Premier Division : BEN ELLIOTT gave West Didsbury & Chorlton an early lead at Ramsbottom United, but they eventually lost 3-1.

Wealdstone "wishes to provide certainty to its supporters after Sakariya Hassan's decision to take part in the first matchday of Baller League 'Season 3' yesterday evening.

'Sak and his representatives are aware he's in breach of his playing contract by choosing to feature in the Baller League,' explained club chairman Rory Fitzgerald.

Having been omitted from the last two matchday squads, the Somalia midfielder has played a total of 21 minutes from the bench during new manager Gary Waddock's first four games in charge of the Stones.

'For the sake of absolute clarity, Wealdstone FC retains his official player registration and any decisions relating to the remainder of this season remain in the gift of the club's Board of Directors,' he added.

Stones' manager Waddock has confirmed he does not expect 24-year-old Hassan to be part of the team's plans between now and the end of the campaign - which could still end at Wembley Stadium if the Royals can overcome National League North Marine in a home Isuzu FA Trophy semi-final on Saturday March 28.

Added Fitzgerald 'Any work we can do between now and the transfer deadline a week Thursday (March 27) in terms of refining what we've got in the building will help us get ahead with refreshing the squad during the summer'."

Netherlands-born playmaker Hassan - who signed in the summer from Isthmian League Premier Division Hashtag United - has featured 32 times for the Stones this season (12 starts + 20 as sub), scoring three goals.

Footnote: The BBC explains that Baller League is a "six-a-side format set up in Germany by entrepreneur Felix Starck and footballers Mats Hummels and Lukas Podolski in 2023.

The first UK edition took place in March and a US version will begin later this year with YouTuber IShowSpeed, Olympian Usain Bolt and World Cup winner Ronaldinho among the team managers.

Football legends Gary Lineker, John Terry and Luis Figo were lined up as team managers in season one of the UK edition".

West Ham United "U21s fell to a cruel defeat against Boreham Wood on penalties after a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes at Meadow Park.

Our young Hammers took a two-goal lead into the break courtesy of first-half strikes from Lewis Orford and Josh Landers. Despite carving out clear chances in the second half, a third goal eluded them as Boreham Wood’s Abdul Abdulmalik and a very late equaliser from Aaron Henry sent the tie to penalties.

Cruelly for our young Irons, six perfect penalties were not enough as the hosts’ seven meant Boreham Wood lifted the National League Cup trophy in a game defined by the finest of margins.

NEXT: SOUTHEND UNITED

Altrincham welcome Southend United on Saturday (3pm).

Before their match today (Tuesday) Southend had lost just once in their last seven games, securing three wins and three draws in the process. However, five of those games had been played at Roots Hall.

Away from home the Shrimpers have won just once in six outings but have only lost twice on the road in that sequence.

Harry Boyes is their only player to have started all 35 league fixtures this season.

They have two players in double figures as regards goals. Andrew Dallas has twelve goals to his name whilst Gus Scott-Morriss has fund the net on ten occasions.

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports on Monday's action...

Irish Premier Division: There was a full programme for St Patrick's Eve, but the 5 games produced a meagre total of 8 goals - and 7 of those were scored in the same game. There weren't any at Richmond Park as St Patrick's were held by visitors Derry City. BARRY BAGGLEY played the full game for the hosts.

ALTY RESPOND TO PLANNED DISRUPTION

As reported here yesterday, some local residents are planning to perform acts of "civil disobedience" on Saturday afternoon in the Moss Lane area.

Later on Monday Altrincham FC posted a response which said that "Following receipt of the planned disruption, a Safety Advisory Group meeting took place earlier this afternoon (Monday, March 16th) between ourselves, police and council representatives to discuss the disruption.

As a result of the SAG [meeting], GMP have confirmed there will be a police presence in and around the stadium and local officers will respond if needed.

We would like to encourage fans attending Saturday's game to allow additional time for their journey to the stadium. We encourage supporters to walk or use public transport where possible, to park respectfully if driving and behave courteously towards our neighbours".

ALTY THROUGH THE YEARS: 17 MARCH

As Howard Watts and Mike Garnett's Through the Years records show, it is exactly 25 years ago today (17 March, 2001) that Altrincham secured an impressive 3-0 win over Droylsden. It was to be player-manager Mark Ward's final game in charge of the Robins and victory arrived after just one win in their previous ten matches.

Right: Mark Ward nets Alty's third goal from the spot in the 90th minute as his side beat Gateshead 3-2 on the opening day of the 2000-01 season.

Ward was sacked just hours after the win over Droylsden. The dismissal was particularly unexpected as the winning team had featured two players who Ward had just been allowed to bring in for their first games, namely Rod Thornley (from Congleton Town) and Paul Edwards (from Knutsford).

However, it was believed at the time that the sacking was made on the grounds that Ward had not achieved promotion with a highly-paid squad and would find it even more difficult the following season with scant resources available.

The former managerial partnership of Bernard Taylor and Graham Heathcote was put in charge as Ward's replacement.

The previous twelve months had witnessed many ups and downs for Altrincham:

  • 4 March 2000 - Alty lay tenth in Conference, despite the 1999 sale of Paul Ellender to Scarborough and the resignation in December 1999 of Graham Heathcote, a move occasioned by the arrival of former manager, Stan Allan, as Director of Football.
  • 5 May 2000 - Alty were relegated to the Unibond Premier (NPL) on the last day of the season.
  • Summer 2000 - Bernard Taylor resigned and Mark Ward was appointed as the new manager. That summer also witnessed the departure of key players, including captain Chris Timons, Mick Morrell and Simeon Hodson.
  • September 2000 - "Player of the Year" Danny Adams was sold to Macclesfield Town for £25,000.
  • January 2001 - Gerry Berman resigned as Chairman as a Winding-Up Order was threatened.
  • February 2001 - Players were off-loaded to save money- including Kevin Ellison to Leicester City for £50,000 and captain Gary Talbot to Northwich Victoria.
  • 17 March 2001 - Alty recorded their best win of 2001 against Droylsden.
  • 18 March 2001 - Mark Ward reported to have been sacked.

NORTH-WEST NEWS

On "X", Kieran Magurie observes that "Radcliffe FC, in the sixth tier of English football in National League North, lost £807k last year, that’s £15,500 a week. It was £674k the previous season. Club is trading due to increased borrowings as long term debt exceeds £2.1m".

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

In advance of tonights' clash with Alty's next opponents, Southend United, Rochdale wrote of The Shrimpers that "A trip to Scunthorpe United ended in defeat but they bounced back well with wins over strugglers Morecambe and Brackley Town, netting eight in the process.

Kevin Maher’s side’s last defeat came at the end of February to Boreham Wood as they then progressed to the semi-finals of the Trophy with a win at Horsham. They are now unbeaten in March with one win and three draws, meaning the battle for seventh is on with FC Halifax Town, including as many as three games in hand on the Shaymen and a point behind. James Golding got his first goal on his return to the club with both strikes on Saturday coming from corners".

Wealdstone boss "Gary Waddock cautioned against getting carried away with Wealdstone's recent goal-getting form after his side made it 11 goals in the last three Enterprise National League games after going nap to beat Solihull Moors 5-1 at The Vale.

'Every single one of the players has responded and reacted to what we've been asking of them,' he told StonesTV... 'Everything's coming together but it's only the start. We've got a long way to go to get to where we want to be'...

As well as the variety in names on the scoresheet, with five different goalscorers, there was a difference in how the quintet were created.

Waddock smiled 'They were all different types of goals and that's a real positive... It's impressive to be able to open up an opponent like we did, because Solihull are a good side with good experience in there; they know this level really well... We kept the ball really well and with [?we] had possession with purpose,' added Waddock, of a message he's been strongly reiterating ever since his recent arrival".

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SCUNTHORPE

Scunthorpe United has video highlights from Saturday's game against Altrincham.

NEXT: SOUTHEND UNITED

Next Saturday, for a second successive weekend, Altrincham face play-off aspirants.

On this occasion, however, it is a home clash for the Robins and the opponents will be Southend United who currently lie just outside the play-off places in eighth position. However, the Shrimpers have up to three games in hand on those clubs above them and their maximum available points' haul is the sixth highest in the National League.

The reverse fixture, at Roots Hall, ended in a 3-0 defeat for the Robins.

Before they visit Altrincham, Southend will entertain Rochdale on Tuesday night, a match in which a win would lift them into the top seven.

"CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE" AROUND MOSS LANE

Spectators attending the game against Southend United next Saturday ahould be aware that the following leaflet has been circulated around the neighbourhood of the J. Davidson Stadium...

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan's tracking of Alty 'Old Boys' takes us to three foreign locations to cover Sunday's activities by former Altrincham players or loanees.

First up, across the Atlabtic in the USL League 1, Corpus Christi opened their season with a comparatively short trip from their South Texas base to Florida, where they were behind twice but earned a 2-2 draw with FC Naples. SAM ROSCOE (right) was an unused substitute.

Next, in the South Korea K League 2, MARCUS DACKERS made his debut for Daegu as they won 2-3 at Asan, with him putting in a 92 minute shift

Back a little closer to home, in the French Ligue 1, having only just got back into the first team picture at Strasbourg, MAXI OYEDELE was not in the squad for today's home game against Paris FC due to an undisclosed illness.

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

Cumbria's News & Star reported on Tamworth's 2-1 win over Carlisle United at The Lamb on Saturday...

The paper stated that "Mark Hughes did not like it when the question reached the territory of inconsistency of performance – 'Don’t layer it on,' he said, reminding the News & Star that Carlisle had won five of their previous seven games – but unfortunately this remains the sweet spot of their promotion push. The crux of the matter, in fact".

The Banbury Guardian staes that "Brackley Town manager Andy Whing has taken accountability for his side’s seven successive defeats ahead of this Tuesday’s clash with former club Solihull Moors.

The Saints remain precariously close to the National League relegation zone, now two points above fellow strugglers Morecambe, Braintree Town and Gateshead after they all drew their matches.

The St James Park faithful couldn’t believe their eyes as Brackley were torn to shreds by Woking on Saturday, in a bonkers 11-minute spell in which the hosts scored all four of their goals in a 4-1 victory.

Before the loss to Woking, Brackley had been beaten by Eastleigh, Boreham Wood, Rochdale, Altrincham, Wealdstone and Southend United.

w With games every Saturday and Tuesday and with only one training session per week, it’s been an absolutely brutal month for the part-time Brackley.

Whing cannot think of another moment in his career - as a player or manager - that has been quite as tricky as this one...

'It's probably been the hardest, most difficult period of my career. Just because I take it personally... I take it to heart. I'm desperate to do well for really, really good people. Obviously, I'm letting those people down.

'I'm letting the fans down with results. That weighs really, really heavily on me. All we can do is keep working harder'...

Whing... is trying to increase the contact time with his players, starting with an extra session on Monday evening. Usually, it’s just Thursdays and matchdays that the group meet".

AFTER THE MATCH: NEIL GIBSON

Speaking to Alty TV after the match at Scunthorpe, Neil Gibson expressed "real disappointment" at the defeat by Scunthorpe United in "a game we didn't deserve to lose".

He rued the missed chances when 1-0 up and stated that "We've come a cropper to two shots from outside the box, which is hard to take".

Overall, however, "it was an "excellent, excellent effort" by the players, he judged. He saluted Lucas Weaver for taking his chance after a rare start for the forward.

Finally Neil thanked and paid tribute to the supporters who travelled to Lincolnshire.

SCUNTHORPE UNITED 2-1 ALTRINCHAM

An Altrincham side with nine players out injured, a tenth suspended and an eleventh (Howe) ineligible against his employers, were denied a point at Scunthorpe by an added-time goal. In doing so, Altrincham recorded their twentieth defeat of the league season, a total only surpassed by Gateshead and Truro City, the two bottom clubs in the Enterprise National League.

Left: Lucas Weaver

Having survived a clearance off their own line by Josh Grant, Altrincham took a first-half lead against the run of play when a smart move up the left saw Eddy Jones and Tom Crawford feed the advancing Sam Reed. His low cross was slotted deftly through the home keeper's legs, in the centre of the goalmouth, by Lucas Weaver (40 mins).

The Robins then started the second half as the better team but had four times failed to convert good chances to double their lead before the hosts equalised, again against the run of play just as Alty had scored in the first half.

First of the wasted chances was when Weaver produced a wild shot, miles off target (44 mins) before an impressive move culminated in Isaac Marriott getting a clear header all wrong from about 12 yards out early in the second half (49 mins). Reed and Knowles both had shots saved before Weaver again blazed over the bar (54 mins) and, around the hour mark, an excellent move ended in a weak shot by Liam Humbles.

The hosts, who had won just one of their previous eight league games made a double change and, coincidentally rather then as a consequence, they equalised just a minute later.

This goal came out of nothing as Starbuck fired home from just outside the box (64 mins). However, the equaliser animated the Iron and they dominated the next few minutes.

But Altrincham looked to have ridden out the storm and secured a point until the second of four added minutes when Beestin was allowed to advance and fire past Hutchinson from the edge of the box. Beestin had likewise put Scunthorpe 2-1 up in the reverse fixture but, this time, there was to be no Altrincham comeback.

Defeat leaves Altrincham sixteenth in the table.

Match report here.

ALTY OLD BOYS

There was a full shift from OWEN DALE as Plymouth Argyle came from behind twice to draw 2-2 at Reading.

AFC Wimbledon withdrew ALI SMITH after 65 minutes at Stevenage. CARL PIERGIANNI played the full game for the hosts who won 1-0.

Wycombe Wanderers were trailing 0-2 at home to Luton Town when JUNIOR QUITIRNA came on after 53 minutes, but, although he scored deep into added time, it wasn't enough to prevent defeat.

League Two : JAMES BERRY was an unused substitute for Chesterfield, who won 2-3 at Notts County.

Barrow brought on ELLIOT NEWBY after 66 minutes, but visitors Accrington Stanley forced a goalless draw.

Newport County's surprise 1-2 win at Barnet means that the Cumbrian club now share the relegation spots with Harrogate Town.

JOEL SENIOR played throughout a 0-1 defeat for Bristol Rovers at Bromley, for whom MARCUS DINANGA was a 79th minute substitute.

The only goal of Oldham Athletic's 1-0 home win over Grimsby Town had already been scored when the Mariners threw on JUSTIN AMALUZOR after 86 minutes. It was a brief cameo, but he still found time to pick up a yellow card.

Another late booking was the fate of Shrewsbury Town's KEVIN BERKOE as they succumbed 0-2 at home to Cheltenham Town. JAKE BICKERSTAFF (right) played 84 minutes for the winners.

National League : With JACK HINCHY playing the full game in midfield, Wealdstone thrashed Solihull Moors 5-1. LEWIS BAINES suffered the full game for Moors.

York City hit 3 goals without reply at Aldershot. ALEX NEWBY scored the second one before being withdrawn after 72 minutes, although JEFF KING played the full game. Shots only brought MATT PENNEY on in the 90th minute.

Yeovil Town led at Boston United, but the Pilgrims turned things round to win 2-1, with CONNOR TEALE putting in a full shift. Yeovil withdrew KYLE FERGUSON after 78 minutes, while MATT GOULD was in his usual spot on their bench.

It was 2-2 after 80 minutes at The Shay when Halifax brought on BILLY WATERS, and 6 minutes later he set up the winning goal that sent Boreham Wood back south empty handed.

KEATON WARD was credited with the assist for Gateshead's goal, but visitors Sutton United had dominated the game, and equalised in the 84th minute to take a point.

KENNEDY DIGIE played the full game for Tamworth as they beat visitors Carlisle United 2-1. REGAN LINNEY played the full game for the Cumbrian side, but they substituted CHRIS CONN-CLARKE at half time.

TYRESE SINCLAIR played 84 minutes for Hartlepool United as they won 0-1 at Truro City.

Although JOSH LUNDSTRAM played the full game for Eastleigh, they lost 1-3 to visiting league leaders Rochdale

JOE NUTTALL wasn't in Morecambe's squad. The Shrimps led 1-0 at home to Braintree Town but Braintree equalised with the last kick of the game, so Morecambe remain 21st.

National North : JUSTIN DONAWA was an 80th minute substitute for Hereford, as they won 2-1 at home against pre-match league leaders South Shields. This allowed CRAIG MAHON'S AFC Fylde to leapfrog them at the top of the table as they came from behind to beat visitors King's Lynn 4-1.

CHRIS MERRIE played the full game for the Coasters, while GEORGE WILSON (left) was a 74th minute substitute.

LEWIS SALMON played 80 minutes for Alfreton Town, but they lost 0-2 to visitors Peterborough Sports.

OWEN GERMAN played the full game for Chorley at home to Buxton, while STEVEN DRENCH stepped down from the bench with regular second choice keeper Joe Nolan back from injury. It was the Derbyshire side, captained by CONNOR KIRBY, who won 1-2.

Macclesfield started with 4 former Robins at Curzon Ashton - SAM HEATHCOTE, KACPER PASIEK, ELLIOTT OSBORNE, and JAMES GALE. MIKEY STONE was on their bench, while JOSH OLLERENSHAW was in goal for Curzon - and on the wrong end of the two goals that settled the match.

LUKE WATERFALL captained Worksop Town as they lost 4-2 at Marine.

Southern League Central : YUSIFU CEESAY was sent off just before the hour with his Spalding United side a goal down to visitors Halesowen Town - who added a second goal in the 65th minute. However to 10 man Tulips fought back and gained an unlikely 3-2 win.

NPL Premier Division : Ashton United fell behind almost straight from the kick off at Cleethorpes Town, but JAMES HARDY equalised after 56 minutes, and they went on to lead before the hosts struck in 89th minute to draw 2-2.

MONTEL GIBSON opened the scoring as Hednesford Town beat visitors Guiseley 2-0.

HAYDEN CAMPBELL came on to replace ADAM PORTER for Leek Town after 70 minutes, but Warrington Rylands, with captain DEAN FURMAN playing the full game, scored again to win 0-2.

A single goal settled Hyde United's relegation 6 pointer at Morpeth Town. Unfortunately they didn't score it, and are outside the relegation zone only on goal difference. MAX HARROP lasted 57 minutes, and captain JACK REDSHAW just 9 minutes longer, but DONTAI GABIDON played the full game.

A 73rd minute SHARIF DEANS goal earned Prescot Cables a 1-1 home draw with Rushall Olympic.

NPL Division 1 Midlands : TOLANI OMOTOLA (right) was an 84th minute substitute for Boldmere St.Michaels who had already wrapped up a 1-3 win at AFC Rushden & Diamonds by then. He picked up a yellow card in added time.

NPL Division 1 West : DAVID FITZPATRICK played the full game for Avro as they won 3-1 at home to Sporting Khalsa to keep up the pressure on Bury at the top of the table. The Shakers retained the leadership with a 0-2 win at Kidsgrove Athletic, with JOE PIGGOTT coming off their bench in the 90th minute.

TONY THOMPSON kept a clean sheet, ably assisted by TOM HANNIGAN, as a single goal was enough to beat visitors Chasetown.

JAMES LAWRIE and JOEL BEMBO-LETA played the whole of Witton Albion's 0-2 win at Clitheroe, but DAMOLA SOTONA was substituted after 78 minutes.

Runcorn Linnets showed no mercy to their relegation threatened hosts, winning 0-3 at Darlaston Town. SEAN MILLER came off the bench after 74 minutes, and 10 minutes later RYAN BROOKE rounded off the scoring, being substituted immediately afterwards.

Despite playing with 10 men from the 29th minute and going behind soon afterwards, Nantwich Town actually went ahead through BYRON HARRISON (right) at Lower Breck, before being pegged back for a 2-2 draw. AIDY ROXBURGH was substituted after 75 minutes, and Byron went off 10 minutes later.

KYLE BROWNHILL played the full game for Stalybridge Celtic as they made hay at Newcastle Town, winning 0-5.

Shifnal Town had already scored the only goal at home to Trafford by the time they brought on ELLIOTT DURRELL after 74 minutes.

MASON FAWNS was missing for Mossley at Stafford Rangers, but MARK LEES captained them to victory by the only goal.

REMI RAYMOND equalised for Congleton Town at Wythenshawe Town after 78 minutes, but an 85th minute injury to the referee led to the match being abandoned at 1-1. DAVE PARTON for the Bears, and ASTLEY MULHOLLAND for Town, had played from the start.

NWCL Premier Division : After a goalless first half, BEN ELLIOTT opened the scoring as West Didsbury & Chorlton hit 4 without reply at Longridge Town.

Scottish Premiership : Kilmarnock shocked leaders Hearts, scoring the only goal of the game at Rugby Park after 17 minutes. JOE HUGILL lasted 83 minutes. Hearts are now only 2 points clear of Celtic at the top, while Kilmarnock remain next to bottom, but are 9 points clear of Livingston.

NEIL'S VIEW BEFOREHAND

On Alty TV Tom Jolley has interviewed manager Neil Gibson about today's match.

Right: Before the late change of fortunes, Neil Gibson is seen (right) during the home match against Scunthorpe earlier this season.

Four wins in five games mean that, in Neil's view, "The players are in really good form" though there are "too many injuries for my liking".

Asked about keeper Luke Hutchinson, the Alty boss was full of praise. He pointed out that "Hutch" has kept three clean sheets in the last five games, with the "abomination" of a game at Tamworth the exception for which the keeper was not to blame.

He tipped the young keeper, on loan from Bolton Wanderers, to go on to higher things.

The reverse fixture with Scunthorpe, in which Alty came from 2-1 down after 88 minutes to defeat The Iron 4-2 was, for the Alty boss, "a defining moment" of the season.

The boss was pleased to have had a blank midweek as, following next week's home match against Southend United, Altrincham will have to play six games in 18 days.

The tea-time kick off means that the game today can be screened live via the DAZN streaming saervice.

BEFORE THE GAME: SCUNTHORPE UNITED.

Altrincham are contesting a tea-time (5.30pm) kick-off at Scunthorpe today, boosted by four wins in their last five outings.

However, for Altrincham, it remains to be seen if any of their injured players will be involved on Saturday. Those who missed the last game through injury were Ross, Banks, Sass-Davies, Breckin, Khan and Olson. Additionally, Dan Sassi remains suspended whilst Declan Howe is ineligible to play against his parent club.

In contrast, The Iron have hit a rocky spell with just one win in their last eight outings, a run which has included five defeats. However, they have two prolific strikers in 18-goal Danny Whitehall and 15-goal Cal Roberts

Joe Rowley is their player with the most league appearances this season, having started 35 of their 36 matches.

In ROSS BARROWS they have a former Altrincham defender. Injury has affected his season so he has made only 12(+8) appearances. The Iron have used a surprisingly high 36 players this season, one more than Altrincham who have had a managerial change and a more troubled season.

In contrast Scunthorpe's Andy Butler is one of just eight managers in the NL who started this season and is still in charge of his club.

ALTY OLD BOYS

From Phil Jordan we learn that on Friday in the Australian NPL Victoria, Heidelberg United are a big club in the context of this league. Finishing second in the regular league last season, they won the championship by beating Dandenong City in the playoff final.

They also produced a remarkable performance in the Australia Cup, beating 3 A-League teams on their way to the final, where Newcastle Jets needed extra time to beat them.

Their visit to Oakleigh Cannons appeared to have become a foregone conclusion when they struck 3 times in the space of 10 minutes midway through the first half. A CONNOR HAMPSON (right) volley which skimmed the crossbar was the best Cannons had to offer. Having hurt himself committing a foul for which he was booked, Connor left the action in the 78th minute. Cannons scored twice late on to give the scoreline a false gloss, losing 2-3.

Back in Britain, in the Professional Development League : JACK KINGDON captained Cardiff City U21 as they came from behind to draw 1-1 at Swansea City U21.

Premier League 2 : CALEB ANSEN was again consigned to the bench as Norwich City U21 were beaten 2-1 by hosts Aston Villa U21.

Scottish Championship : KIAN TAYLOR (right) was an 85th minute substitute for Morton, but visitors Partick Thistle struck in the 90th minute to win 1-2. It was their first win on the road in the league since they won at Hampden against Queens Park on September 30th, in spite of which they sit in 2nd place.

Welsh Premier League Championship Group : Connah's Quay Nomads won 2-4 at Caernarfon, although captain JAMES JONES was booked for the second successive game.

NPL Division 1 West : Vauxhall Motors were without YASSINE TOURE for their home game against Atherton Collieries, but KEVIN ELLISON opened the scoring before being substituted just before the hour with the score at 1-1. Collieries skipper SAM SHERIDAN played the whole game as his team recovered from falling behind again to force a 2-2 draw.

Off the field comes news from the National League as Cumbria's News & Star has a long interview with REGAN LINNEY.

It includes...

"Carlisle United’s Regan Linney (left) has opened up on his recent battle with the facial condition Bell’s palsy... which arose following an incident on the pitch in January.

Linney was unable to train or play for a spell and said he had some 'down days' amid his concerns over his recovery.

The 28-year-old has since overcome the problem and made a successful return to the pitch for the Blues.

'It’s called Bell’s palsy and I got diagnosed with that a month to six weeks ago,' Linney told the News & Star. 'I got an elbow to the face against Altrincham [in United’s 3-1 win on January 31] and that's what triggered it. 'I couldn't blink for like two-and-a-half, three weeks, so I couldn't train. I wore goggles twice in training just to see how they were, but they didn't really work for me.

'My mouth dropped and there were loads of other things. It was tough. I didn't know if it was going to heal or not. There's a chance it can't, so that was always in the back of my mind as well. I was looking completely different to how I look now, so there was always that in my mind...

'Luckily, it's basically gone back to normal now and I can play again'...

Linney is in sight of the 20-goal mark... 'I'll definitely get 20. Definitely,' he said."

Also, Carlisle United "caught up with attacker REGAN LINNEY.

Speaking to CUTV, Linney discussed his form throughout the campaign, the influence of senior figures in the dressing room, and the motivation of playing in front of a strong travelling support.

The former Alty man admitted, 'It's probably been up and down, to be honest. I've really enjoyed the club and the fans and everything around the place, but personally, I started off really well, and then I had the problem with my face, so I was out for nearly a month....

'You want that expectation to go out there and expect to win every game, and I think we've done really well this season...

'I'm a confident footballer and a confident lad as well, but I was hoping for a few more, to be honest. I think I dipped in form a little bit before what happened, but I always expected to do well in this league... I just go into any dressing room confident and enjoy my football. I think that's one of the reasons why I've settled in well here'"

As for their forthcoming trip to Staffordshire, he stated "Tamworth is a horrible place to go. There's the 4G pitch and a lot of long balls, but we'll be ready for that and deal with it when we get there... I don't actually mind playing on 4G because we trained on it most days at Altrincham. It's just a bit different with the bounce and the balance".

Carlisle United "confirm that Nigel Clibbens has left his role as Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect.

The club would like to thank Nigel for his service and contribution during his time at Carlisle United. He joined the club in 2016 and played an important role across many areas of the club over a number of years, and we are grateful for his efforts.

After careful consideration, it was determined that this was the right time to make a leadership change as the club moves into its next phase.

Our focus remains on supporting the team and continuing the push on the pitch.

Further updates will be provided in due course".

On Saturday, Altrincham play Scunthorpe United in Lincolnshire in a 5.30pm kick-off.

On Tuesday, as Altrincham sat out the midweek fixtures, Scunthorpe were facing Sutton United. The Iron, playing at home, surprisingly lost 1-2.

Scunthorpe United reported that "Following a dominant second-half display during United’s 3-0 victory over Yeovil Town last time out in the Enterprise National League, the Iron would look for a repeat performance this evening when they welcomed a struggling Sutton United side to the Attis Arena, who came into the encounter off the back of a 5-0 thumping at the hands of relegation rivals Morecambe...

There would be just a single change to the starting XI as defender Joe Starbuck came back into the line-up for ROSS BARROWS, who dropped to the bench. Elsewhere, mere hours after signing for the club, new signing Pat Jones was inducted into the squad on the bench along with Jean Belehouan, who came into the squad to act as the 18th man...

It would be a nervy start to the fixture for both sides as play changed hands within almost every two passes...

The first half would come to an end with the game still hanging in the balance...

Straight from the restart, the Iron would be pegged back unexpectedly as the visiting Yellows went from front to back to score the game’s opening goal...

Scunthorpe wouldn’t take long to level the scores in the game’s very next action...

With the game in its closing stages, there would be yet another disappointing late goal conceded by United as the visitors somehow managed to almost certainly win the game with practically the last attack...

IRON: Jones, Horton, Boyce, Whitehall (Farrell, 55), Roberts, Rowley, Tahir, Ewing (Beestin, 72), Starbuck (Barrows, 72), Westbrooke, Smith (Jones, 45). IRON UNUSED SUBS: Mahady, Belehouan, Hurst".

"There was never any danger that we were going to concede any goals tonight. I thought there was a real edge to our defensive play, more concentration...

"When they committed players forward we were always really dangerous on the break and we probably could have had more goals in the second-half".

As for "Getting the best out of Conn-Clarke, 'We just thought the shape might help and we wanted to get Cricky more involved and give him a start. It’s important that we keep him up to speed. He’s missed out on game time of late but when he’s on the pitch you see the quality he has on the ball.

'He produced two outstanding balls for the goals and I thought his defensive work was good as well'".

Altrincham's next opponents were in action on Tuesday night and it did not go well for Scunthorpe United as they lost at home to struggling Sutton United, 1-2.

Off the field, it was one in and one out at Scunthorpe this week. Leaving the club was the scorer of The Iron's first goal against Altrincham in the fixture at Moss Lane last November as Scunthorpe United "confirm the departure of forward Carlton Ubaezuonu, who joins King’s Lynn Town for an undisclosed fee.

Joining the Iron ahead of the 2024-25 season from then-fellow National League North side Chorley FC, Ubaezuonu became the first signing of the Andy Butler era, having previously played with the gaffer at Farsley Celtic".

So far this campaign, the forward has struggled to establish regular starting minutes, although still managing to make his impact by scoring six goals in 36 appearances across all competitions".

Scunthorpe United also confirm "the permanent signing of Welshman Pat Jones from Enterprise National League North side Chester FC for an undisclosed fee.

Starting his career with youth sides in his native Wales, Jones would be snatched up by Huddersfield Town...

Despite making 18 appearances over three years at Huddersfield, Jones was sold to Exeter City ahead of the 2024-25 season for an undisclosed fee. He made 17 appearances for the Grecians last term before being released at the end of his contract.

This turn of events would lead the winger to join Chester in a shock transfer, with many left surprised that he wasn't still playing EFL football for the 2025-26 season.

So far this season, Jones has been a key figure for the Seals, scoring seven goals in 33 games...

Jones joins the Iron on a two-year deal".

MIDWEEK GAMES

Altrincham ended Tuesday night down two places to fifteenth. Four points now cover the ten teams occupying tenth to nineteeht place, with Wealdstone underlining the volatility in mid-table by rising six places with their win.

Tuesday 10th March 2026

  • Aldershot Town 0-2 Carlisle United
  • Eastleigh 2-1 Brackley Town
  • Scunthorpe United 1-2 Sutton United
  • Southend United 1-1 Gateshead
  • Wealdstone 3-2 Tamworth
  • Woking 2-2 Boreham Wood

NOW IT'S SEVEN FIXTURES AGAINST HIGHER TEAMS

Next Saturday, after seven successive fixtures against clubs in the lower half of the table, which yielded 13 points, fifteenth-placed Altrincham will play seven successive fixtures against clubs who are currently above them in the league table, before completing the campaign against three clubs currently below them in the National League.

And to make the task harder, five of those first seven games are away from home.

Fifteenth-placed Altrincham's remaining ten fixtures are...

  1. Sat.14.3.26 Away Scunthorpe United currently 6th
  2. Sat.21.3.26 HOME SOUTHEND UNITED 8th
  3. Tue.24.3.26 Away Boston United 12th
  4. Sat.28.3.26 Away Solihull Moors 14th
  5. Tue.31.3.26 Away Woking 13th
  6. Fri.3.4.25 HOME FC HALIFAX TOWN 7th
  7. Mon.6.4.26 Away York City 2nd
  8. Sat.11.4.26 HOME EASTLEIGH 18th
  9. Sat.18.4.26 Away Sutton United 17th
  10. Sat.25.4.26 HOME GATESHEAD 23rd

However, Alty are in their joint best form of the season, having won four of their last five games but they currently have ten players out with injury, ineligibility or suspension.

Curiously, despite lying fiftenth, no team lower than eighth in the table has won more games this season than the thirteen victories recorded by Altrincham.

Conversely, only the bottom four have lost more times than Altrincham's 19 defeats. These anomaies arise from the Robins only having drawn four times this season, the lowest total in the division.

OWEN STAYS AT CHORLEY

Altrincham FC reports that "Midfielder Owen German's initial one-month loan spell with Chorley has been extended.

The 20-year-old (pictured left, in 2024 pre-season) will continue with The Magpies in the short-term, after playing five times in the National League North over the last month for Andy Preece's side".

Footnote: A product of Altrincham's Academy system Owen made his debut for Altrincham in the Cheshire Senior Cup on 11 October 2022 at Sandbach. Despite only being seventeen at the time, he had already captained the Altrincham FC Academy side on occasions.

Previously he had spent more than a decade at Crewe Alexandra before his release at the age of sixteen.

From Altrincham, in early 2023, he went on loan at Irlam in the North West Counties League Premier Division.

Despite not having made a league appearance, his promise was such that he was signed up for the first-team squad for 2023-24. However, on 27 July 2023, it was announced that Owen was going on a season-long loan to Wythenshawe Town. However, that arrangement was curtailed owing to injuries to other squad members.

Consequently he was named in three Altrincham National League squads in October 2023 and also played in the CSC tie that month against 1874 Northwich in which he also converted a penalty in a shoot-out.

On 20 October 2023, it was announced that he was commencing a one-month loan at Warrington Rylands in the Northern Premier League's Premier Division. That loan was extended to the end of 2023-24 season but on 2 February it was announced that he had gone on loan at Stafford Rangers.

In summer 2024 he was granted a further contract and after being named in one matchday squad for the first team, he went on a one-month loan to Witton Albion on 30 August 2024, which was later renewed in October 2024. By February 2025 he was back at the JDS before a spell at Alfreton Town in March 2025.

Owen returned to Alfreton for the start of the 2025-26 campaign but was recalled in mid-September. In his eighth inclusion in the first-team league squad he finally made his NL debut, from the bench, on 23 September 2025.

In mid-October 2025 it was announced that Owen was going on loan to Ashton United in the Northern Premier League until the end of 2025. However, this was curtailed in December and, in his third season as a professional at Alty, he finally made his league debut on 30 December 2025, only to be sent off after just 16 minutes against Rochdale.

In all he has made 6(+2) first-team appearances across the league and cup competitions.

YorkMix reports that "The former owner of York City FC is taking the current owners to court alleging breach of contract.

Jason McGill has served a writ against York City Football Club Ltd which has been lodged at the High Court.

The case was filed on 18 February.

Lifelong fan Mr McGill is a former managing director and chairman of York City.

His company JM Packaging Limited bought 75% of the shares of York City Football Club Limited from fans group the York City Supporters’ Trust in 2006.

During his time in charge, Mr McGill was instrumental in negotiating the deal which saw the football club regain control of former ground Bootham Crescent, then selling it to Persimmon Homes for £7 million.

Some of the money Mr McGill had invested in the club was paid back as a result of that sale but all interest charges owed to JM Packaging were written off...

Mr McGill sold his 75% stake back to the supporters’ trust and left the club the following year, shortly before Glen Henderson took over as majority shareholder and chairman.

YorkMix understands JM Packaging is now suing York City Football Club Limited over financial arrangements that date back to the arrangements drawn up at the time of this handover.

The alleged breach of contract is said to have persisted after York City was bought by new owners 394 Sports Ltd, co-owned by Matthew Uggla and Julie-Anne Uggla.

Mr McGill... sent us this statement 'M Packaging Ltd (JMP) confirms that its solicitors, Andrew Jackson of York, have commenced formal legal proceedings in the High Court for a substantial sum against York City Football Club Limited'".

NEXT: SCUNTHORPE UNITED

Altrincham travel to Lincolnshire to face Scunthorpe United on Saturday (5.30pm).

This will be the return fixture of a quite remarkable game at the J. Davidson Stadium at the end of November.

Back then, after 88 minutes Altrincham were undeservedly 1-2 down; after the minimum of four added minutes had been played in torrential sleet and rain, the Robins had won 4-2.

Although Altrincham had started well and had created but spurned a couple of early chances, The Iron took the lead against the run of play in the 14th minute when Ubaezuonu's impressive over head kick found the net from a ball from the right.

Alty found an equaliser in the 34th minute from Crawford's clever near-post header, converting an Osborne corner from the right.

With centre-back Sassi suspended as he is again for this return fixture, his replacement Barnes suffered a back injury just before half-time and had to be replaced by midfielder Ward.

In the second half Scunthorpe retook the lead just before the hour mark when a low ball from the left was smartly finished by Beestin (59 mins).

Alty struggled to find a leveller but, with time running out and manager Neil Gibson cutting an increasingly frustrated figure, Matty Kosylo converted a ball from the right from Reddin to level the score once again (89 mins).

The manager's spirits were further lifted following an Alty corner, when the ball reached Crankshaw via Ward and the substitute winger's lob found the net to give Altrincham the lead (90+1 mins).

Scunthorpe keeper Mahady had already come up for one corner before advancing for a second flag-kick for his side deep into added time. On this occasion, however, from the Iron corner Crankshaw got past an opponent deep in the Alty half and ran the length of the pitch to score into the unguarded net and make it 4-2 (90+5 mins).

Crankshaw's goals were his first for the club in his 27th game across two and a half injury-ravaged seasons. Sadly, the winger is again out injured as is another scorer, Matty Kosylo. Six longer term absentees (Ross, Banks, Sass-Davies, Breckin, Khan, Olson), the suspended Sassi and the ineligible Scunthorpe loanee Declan Howe, bring the total of likely absentees on Saturday to ten! The good news is that Tylor Golden (left) has completed his ban and will be available to face Scunthorpe.

Also, since the game in November a remarkable five of Altrincham's squad have left the club either on loan (Lewis Baines), or have moved on to other clubs (Elliot Osborne, James Gale, Keaton Ward) or have returned to their parent club (Jack Hinchy).

ALTRINCHAM: 30. Luke Hutchinson, 24. Sam Barnes, 4. Lewis Baines (c), 5. Jake Cooper, 23. Tylor Golden, 6. Elliot Osborne, 22. Tom Crawford, 40. Charlie Kirk, 14. Matty Kosylo, 20. Kahrel Reddin, 9. James Gale. Subs: 7. Olly Crankshaw, 8 Isaac Marriott, 10. Keaton Ward, 11. Jimmy Knowles 17. Lucas Weaver, 21. Jack Hinchy, 41. Max Beddow (gk).

The Halifax Courier lists the 24 clubs in the National League in ascending order.

The worst-attended club is currently Gateshead, who average 1,061 spectators per game. Top of the pile is Southend United who attract 8,060 supporters on average for home league games at Roots Hall.

Altrincham lie 14th from the top with gates averaging 1,913.

The Robins' opponents on Saturday, Scunthorpe United, attract 4,707 fans per match, placing them fourth from the top of the charts.

Altrincham's highest league gate this season has been 3,332 which has curiously been achieved twice; once against Carlisle United on a Saturday afternoon and also against Rochdale on a Friday night.

The lowest gate at the J. Davidson Stadium so far this season was 1,104 against Wealdstone on a Tuesday night. Saturday's lowest gate was 1,602 versus Solihull Moors on August Bank Holiday Monday which narrowly beat 1,604 against Sutton United in a lunchtime kick off.

Carlisle United "announce that Hugh Parker's loan from Hull City has been extended until the end of the season.

Parker, 19, will see out the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign at Brunton Park, with the deal also covering any potential involvement in the Enterprise National League play-offs.

The forward has appeared on seven occasions since joining from the Sky Bet Championship outfit, offering plenty of energy and endeavour in attacking areas.

First Team Coach, Frankie McAvoy said... 'He’s shown in training and the game time that he’s had, that he is valued by the club. He has undoubted potential '".

Rochdale have suffered their second injury blow in a week. After Harvey Gilmour was ruled out Dale "can confirm that Joe Pritchard will miss up to six weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in our win over Brackley Town.

The versatile player was withdrawn from last Tuesday’s game at half-time and has since had his scan results back.

Jimmy McNulty noted... 'Joe’s got a hamstring injury, which is unfortunate. It’s at a point where he was starting to get going in the team and we lose him for six weeks now.

'Like I’ve said recently though, it’s the next guy up.

'The team are ready to deliver in his absence'.

Joe joins the injury table, which currently includes Harvey Gilmour, Tobi Adebayo-Rowling and Sam Beckwith".

Two players have left Solihull Moors one for good, and the other on loan.

"Kian Ryley has joined Bromsgrove Sporting on loan until the end of the season.

The loan move will allow Kian to gain further first-team experience...

Also Solihull Moors "confirm that Billy Corns has joined Alvechurch FC on a permanent transfer.

The move provides Billy with the opportunity to continue his development with regular first-team football as he begins the next chapter of his career".

Wealdstone manager Gary Waddock "can reflect - albeit not for long - on a first win as new Wealdstone boss - and it was an emphatic one, too: 4-1 away at Braintree Town...

It's a result which puts distance between the Stones - still sat [sic] with a game or two in hand over most of the teams around them in the table... Indeed, Stones created a seemingly endless string of promising situations against The Iron in the first 45 - and would eventually take a 2-1 lead into half-time...

Two more goals... in the second half... sealed a comfortable success....

Of newcomer [fromer Alty loanee] JACK HINCHY... the Stones' boss added 'He's gone into the middle of the park, he's been our pivot and he gets us playing.

'In fact, some of the work he does goes unnoticed so I've been pleased with him - because he's had to get up to speed with match fitness at this level, too. He's fitted in really well.'"

ALTY v TRURO CITY: MANAGERS' VIEWS

Although Altrincham defeated Truro City 2-0 on Saturday, the Non-League Paper [NLP] reported that the Tinners had no fewer than 16 shots at goal, twice the Alty total of eight.

Six of the Truro shots were on target with Alty keeper Luke Hutchinson a major factor in keeping them out.

Speaking to the Non-League Paper, Alty boss Neil Gibson said of his loanee keeper from Bolton Wanderers, "He's stepped into the big shoes of Ethan Ross and is growing in confidence too. The trust the players have in him is huge"

The 23 year-old keeper was named in the NL Paper's Team of the Day.

Above: Neil Gibson gives his players a pep talk during a break in play against Truro City last Saturday.

The Alty boss also explained that "We've been short on numbers recently and some players were playing out of position today.

"But they stood up to be counted. We're now on four wins from five, we're up to 13th and so, sometimes, we need to remember the positive results we've had and feel the positivity throughout the group".

Gibson's counterpart, John Askey opined that "The number of chances we had in the first 15 minutes, hitting the post twice, if you don't take those then it'll come back to bite you as it did today.

"We couldn't have asked to play better at the start of the game but it ultimately sums our season up".

Right: Before kick off last Saturday against Truro City, a minute's applause was held in memory of former Altrincham FC director of finance, Mike Adams.

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports that, in Asutralia's NPL Victoria : CONNOR HAMPSON and his Oakleigh Cannons team mates would have been hoping to win at Melbourne City U21, as they would have gone top of the league. Unfortunately they only sit in 4th place after going behind in the 18th minute, and then not being able to add to their 41st minute equaliser.

As for Sunday's game in England's League One, ALI SMITH played the whole of AFC Wimbledon's 1-0 home win against Northampton Town.

ALTY v TRURO CITY

Alty TV has some ten minutes of high quality highlights from Altrincham's win last Saturday over Truro City.

NEXT: SCUNTHORPE UNITED

Altrincham's next match is a tea-time (5.30pm) kick off at Scunthorpe United, a match being featured by the DAZN streaming service.

It will be Altrincham's second tea-time match of the season but they have had four kick-offs changed to 12.30pm this season to accommodate DAZN. The Robins will be without the services of Declan Howe, as he is on loan from The Iron. With a dozen players currently unavailable through injury or suspension, Neil Gibson will have few options to vary his starting line-up.

Scunthorpe started the season like a train, going unbeaten in their first 11 matches. They then put together a run of 16 league games in which they lost only twice. However, just wo points came from their next six fixtures before a 3-0 away win at Yeovil, last time out, got them back on track.

NEW FACE: KIAN MATTISON

A surprise inclusion in Altrincham's squad last Saturday for the National League match against Truro City was Academy midfielder Kian Mattison (right). Unfortunately, Kian did not get onto the pitch against The Tinners.

With ten players unavailable for the game, manager Neil Gibson dipped into the Academy squad to include Kian, who has been training with the first-team squad.

Supporters may recall that, as well as figuring regularly for the Academy under-19s' team this season, Kian was a late substitute in Altrincham's FA Youth Cup win over South Liverpool at Moss Lane last October.

Kian, whose junior years were spent with Manchester United, has become the 35th player to be named in a National League squad for Altrincham this season.

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

Altrincham's next opponents, Scunthorpe United won last Saturday 3-0 at Yeovil Town. Somerset Live informs us that Yeovil Town manager Billy Rowley said "The performance wasn't dreadful, but when you concede three goals at home, it’s just not good enough".

"'When I watch the game back on Monday, there’s probably a lot of good bits to our play,' Yeovil Town manager Billy Rowley claimed..

The Glovers had arguably the better first-half performance, creating chances through Aaron Jarvis and James Daly, but were undone by a professional second-half display from the Iron. Danny Whitehall opened the scoring from the penalty spot, before substitute Leo Farrell added a quick brace to secure all three points...

'We were so wasteful, and I’m there on the bench fuming at the lads,' Rowley said".

AFTER THE GAME: NEIL GIBSON

Speaking to George Allen on Alty TV, after the win over Truro City, manager Neil Gibson admitted that "I felt for Truro... We were very, very lucky we weren't behind considerably" before we scored. The performance at the start of the game was "not acceptable" he added.

Neil explained that after 20 minutes the team had "changed shape" and, following that change, we improved and "took our chances well".

As for the absences of Olly Crankshaw and Matty Kosylo against Truro, Neil explained that Crankshaw "felt his back" after the coach journey to Brackley recently and then, when playing in that game, he compensated for the back issue by running differently and, in turn, that caused a pulled hamstring. He will now be "out for a period of time".

As for Kosylo, his injury was not specified but he will be out "for a decent period of the season".

Although Declan Howe played against Truro and scored his third goal in five appearances, he had been ill in the week and he was subbed in the second half for that reason. Likewise Anthony Forde had a "little injury" so was withdrawn at the interval.

Neil remained upbeat, however, pointing out that since he and Lee Jones joined the club the team had earned 30 points in 21 games.

Footnote: The injured list now includes Ross, Banks, Sass-Davies, Breckin, Khan, Olson, Kosylo, Crankshaw and Forde. In addition, Sassi remains banned for a further three games and Golden has a further match to miss for his red card. That litany comprises eleven players who are currently unavailable.

ALTRINCHAM 2-0 TRURO CITY

Altrincham started this game dreadfully. Truro had no fewer than six good chances to take the lead inside the opening 17 minutes, four of which required good to excellent saves from Luke Hutchinson, another threat needed a brilliant tackle to save Alty and the sixth effort was fired disappointingly wide by the Truro player in question. Time and again Alty had allowed Truro players to advance unchallenged towards goal.

Right: Declan Howe is congratulated on his goal by Kahrel Reddin and Jimmy Knowles.

So it was completely against the run of play when Altrincham went ahead in the 28th minute. After a foul on Reddin, Forde's freekick from the right eventually found its way to Scunthorpe United loanee Declan Howe at the back post and he cleverly hooked the ball across goal and into the net towards the near post.

As half time approached, Truro made a blunder at the back when a ball was played across-field by a defender to Reddin. His effort was blocked but, from around 18 yards another Alty loanee, Liam Humbles, netted impressively (42 mins).

The second half was a poor affair, largely devoid of excitement. Altrincham seemed content to sit on their lead, with only sporadic attacking ambition being shown, whilst Truro failed to find a way to convert their forward momentum into a goal.

But for Altrincham the result was all that mattered and the win lifted them to thirteenth.

Match report here.

SAM HEATHCOTE, ELLIOTT OSBORNE, and JAMES GALE all started for Macclesfield, while KACPER PASIEK and MIKEY STONE were both 76th minute substitutes. OWEN GERMAN played the full game for Chorley, while substitute keeper STEVE DRENCH remained on the bench.

Scottish Championship : KIAN TAYLOR was again an unused substitute as Morton went down 0-2 at home to league leaders St.Johnstone.

NPL Premier Division : Ashton United, without JAMES HARDY, lost to the only goal by visitors Leek Town, for whom ADAM PORTER played throughout, and HAYDEN CAMPBELL (left) came on for the second half, picking up a yellow card.

MONTEL GIBSON played 70 minutes for Hednesford Town, as they won 1-3 at Bamber Bridge to stay 2 points behind leaders Hebburn Town with a game in hand. Hebburn won 2-1 at home against Gainsborough Trinity, for whom JONNY MARGETTS was an 80th minute substitute.

After they had trailed to visitors Prescot Cables, DONTAI GABIDON scored the goal that put Hyde United ahead, although the final score was 2-2. He was substituted after 84 minutes. 7 minutes earlier JACK REDSHAW had given way to MAX HARROP, but WILL HALL wasn't in the squad.

A full shift from skipper DEAN FURMAN couldn't prevent Warrington Rylands surprisingly losing at home to an own goal against Cleethorpes Town.

NPL Division 1 West : SAM SHERIDAN (right) captained Atherton Collieries to a 2-0 home win over relegation threatened Darlaston Town.

Leaders Bury were again without JOE PIGGOTT, and the evergreen KEVIN ELLISON put Vauxhall Motors 0-2 ahead after 52 minutes, before being substituted soon afterwards. There were no more goals, meaning YASSINE TOURE was part of the defence that kept a very creditable clean sheet.

There were 2 former Altrincham goalkeepers in opposition at Ivy Gardens, and both Congleton Town's DAVE PARTON and Bootle's TONY THOMPSON were beaten just once. TOM HANNIGAN put in a full shift in front of Tony.

Mossley had MASON FAWNS sent off after 66 minutes when they were a goal up against visitors Shifnal Town, and although skipper MARK LEES played the full game, they had to settle for a 1-1 draw. ELLIOTT DURRELL was a 74th minute substitute for Shifnal.

It took BYRON HARRISON just 4 minutes to score the only goal of the game at the Weaver Stadium, as Nantwich Town saw off Newcastle Town. Byron left the action after 81 minutes, but AIDY ROXBURGH played the full game.

BEFORE THE GAME: TRURO CITY

Altrincham's opponents today at the J. Davidson Stadium are Truro City.

Altrincham FC has a brief pre-match interview with left-back Eddy Jones (right). After three wins in their last four outings, he said that "It feels like we've turned a corner as a group". He also confirmed that he has been enjoying his more varied role in the Altrincham team this season.

Meanwhile, Truro City "Boss John Askey says that Tuesday’s draw against Southend United will have little or no bearing on the confidence of his Truro City side, ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Altrincham.

The Tinners delivered an outstanding first half showing at Roots Hall to deservedly lead at half-time thanks to Rekeil Pyke’s second of the season. And despite conceding just after the break when Charley Kendall netted, the Tinners defended manfully to grab a deserved share of the spoils.

After suffering six successive defeats – five of those due to goals in the final 10 minutes – Askey’s charges will make a first trip to Moss Lane to face the Robins 11 points from safety in the Enterprise National League..

'Our dressing room has been happy all season,' Askey said. 'Obviously when you are losing, you are down but we’ve always picked ourselves up and gone again. It has been the case all season and the Southend result won’t give us renewed confidence because of the way we have been playing – (confidence) is already there.

'We have improved a lot since Christmas without getting the results and we have been in most of the games. In those games, you think that surely we should win two or three of them but we haven’t'...

Tyler Harvey, Shaun Donnellan and Luke Jephcott, the club’s leading scorer in 2025/26, did not travel to Southend on Tuesday. Askey revealed that this was a decision based on the volume of travelling and frequency of games City have undertaken in recent weeks and not injuries..

Askey said: “With the amount of travelling we do, it is necessary to swap and change personnel. That’s also due to the number of games, along with the position we are in. It also gave a chance to look at one or two players and those that came in did well. I thought George (Cooper) did well, as did all the back four.

'Christian (Oxlade-Chamberlain), that was the best game (for Truro) I’ve seen him play and the midfield were good too. Caleb Roberts has made a difference for us and Rekeil, I’m delighted that he scored a goal and that should give him confidence. It was also his first 90 minutes for us'".

As for Altrincham it remains to be seen if any of the injured players are involved on Saturday. Those who missed the last game through injury were Ross, Banks, Sass-Davies, Breckin, Khan and Olson whilst Sassi and Golden are suspended.

Sassi's ban for his dismissal at Tamworth is for four matches as he had been previously red-carded this season, whilst Golden's handball on the line in the same game has earned him a two-match suspension.

ALTY OLD BOYS

From Phil Jordan we learn that on Friday in the Professional Development League, it was a better afternoon for PHIL PARKINSON this week as his Fleetwood Town U21 side came from behind at Coventry to win 1-2.

Premier League 2 : CALEB ANSEN was back on the the bench as Norwich City U21 shared 4 goals with visitors Arsenal.

Manchester United U21 were without their injured captain, SONNY ALJOFREE (right), as they drew 1-1 at Birmingham City U21.

League Two : Barrow withdrew ELLIOT NEWBY after 71 minutes at Cheltenham Town, and 6 minutes later the hosts withdrew JAKE BICKERSTAFF. Barrow led 1-2 at the time, but had to settle for a point when Cheltenham equalised in the 90th minute.

Irish Premier Division : BARRY BAGGLEY put in a full stint for St.Patrick's at Shelbourne.

After a goalless first half, they scored twice in 5 minutes around the hour mark, but had been pegged back before they snatched a 2-3 victory in added time. The win leaves them 2nd, just 3 points behind unbeaten leaders Bohemians.

Also, Macclesfield FC "confirm that KACPER PASIEK's loan from Preston North End has been extended to the end of the 2025/26 Enterprise National League North season!

The 20 year-old joined the Silkmen from Championship side Preston at the end of January on an initial one month loan deal with an option to extend, during which the young full back has impressed Manager John Rooney, and as a result, has activated the option to secure Kacper’s services for the remainder of the campaign.

Pasiek (pictured, left) made the best possible start to life with the Silkmen, scoring on his debut against Bedford Town at the Leasing.com Stadium, before starting in the next two successive fixtures against Kidderminster Harriers and Leamington. All three fixtures resulted in victory, which Kacper contributed to significantly.

Kacper was then included in the match day squad for our Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round tie against Brentford and has since gone on to feature from the off in league games against Kings Lynn Town and Scarborough Athletic, from which we secured a further four points.

Terms were agreed earlier in the week which confirmed Pasiek was eligible to be included in the squad for... every game going forward between now and the end of the season"

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

Forest Green Rovers "announce the permanent signing of D’Mani Mellor from Macclesfield.

The 25-year-old forward joins from the Silkmen after making 32 National League North appearances and scoring 11 goals during the current campaign.

Mellor came through Manchester United’s academy, representing the club at U18, U19 and U21 levels. He scored seven goals in 13 appearances for the U21S in Premier League 2, making his senior debut for the Red Devils during the 2019/20 season, coming on as a substitute in the Europa League against FC Astana.

Mellor spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Salford City, making three appearances, before joining Wycombe Wanderers on a free transfer. During his time with the Chairboys, he made 13 appearances and had loan spells with Rochdale, on two occasions, and Sutton United.

He later joined Gateshead on a short-term deal before signing for Macclesfield in September of the 2024 campaign, where he has enjoyed the most prolific goalscoring spell of his senior career. Scoring 19 times in 39 appearances during the 2024/25 season under current Rovers manager Robbie Savage".

In response to FGR boss Robbie Savage's signing of another of his former players at the Moss Rose, Macclesfield FC "confirm that D’Mani Mellor has completed his transfer to Forest Green Rovers for an undisclosed fee.

Whilst thanking D’Mani for all of his efforts during his time with us, we must place on record our understandable disappointment at the timing of the move.

As a Club we did everything we could to keep D’Mani, but due to the fact that the terms of his release clause were met and the player also expressed his wish to leave, we could not prevent him from becoming the fifth Macclesfield FC player to leave for The New Lawn since last summer.

Everyone at Macclesfield FC is committed to achieving our fourth promotion in five years, and we would like to reassure supporters that the Club’s contingency plans with regards to future recruitment will now be executed".

Aldershot Town "confirm the signing of Callum Stewart on loan until the end of the season from Shrewsbury Town.

The 24-year-old forward started his career at Coventry Sphinx before moving up the levels to Leamington, where he was the joint top goal scorer in the National League North with 14 goals in 23 games.

Callum’s run of form with Leamington earned him a move to EFL side Shrewsbury Town in January 2025, where he has made over 20 appearances for the club.

His most recent spell has come on loan at Brackley Town, making 10 appearances, scoring 2 goals".

Boston United "are seeking further investment into the club, as the construction of the Jakemans Community Stadium nears completion.

The South Stand and Sports Hub are well under way and chairman David Newton is inviting expressions of interest in external investment to keep the club progressing..

Mr Newton said 'We have spent the past 18 years sorting the issues around the significant financial problems and debt that we inherited back in 2007. Since then, we have put in place a good structure for both the club and the Community Foundation and, of course, we are nearing completion of the new stadium and community Sports Hub.

'It was also important to focus on rebuilding the reputation of the club both in the football world and within the Boston area, as the reputation had been damaged by the financial and governance issues around that club at that time.

'The move from our historic home at York Street was of course forced upon us when the lease came to an end, but equally the club could not remain there as it was becoming a poor state structurally, and also could not generate the income needed for the club to not only survive, but also to move forward.

'In short, we have put the foundations in place for the club to progress both on and off the pitch. We are really proud to have a very solid and passionate fanbase that have continued to support the club through the difficult times, and I was delighted when we achieved promotion to the National League under Ian Culverhouse back in 2024, to reward such fantastic support...

'The club had debts of over £3 million (the equivalent of about £5.5 million today) and did not have a secure home. Today the club is basically debt free and is in its new home. Its reputation has been rebuilt – and the Community Foundation (and education programme) has grown beyond recognition. The club is back at the heart of the community...

'Despite this transformation, the club's finances are still very challenging, particularly since the recent increases in minimum wage, employer’s National Insurance contributions, water, gas and electricity, food costs, and business rates...

'It is also clear that we need additional investment (time, money and skills)... It is essential that any new investor respects the history of the club, and its privileged position within the local community...

'In an ideal world we would like to attract local investors, or those with an affinity to the town and who share our passion for this wonderful community-based club, but equally we would be remiss not to look at opportunities for bring in investment from other areas of the UK or overseas... so we would love to hear from anyone who would like to be become part of our continued journey'".

Boreham Wood chairman Danny Hunter reports that "I can, on the injury front, report we are very close to getting both Callum Reynolds and Erico Sousa back, and our midfield maestro Tom White is now ready to take his place on the bench. These players will add to Luke’s options which is fantastic for the run in and our play-off hopes.

On a sour note, Ollie Kensdale is now out for the season, Coxey is out for a week after Saturday and I’m told Luke Norris is still reporting pain in his foot, so we’ll see how he improves over the next few weeks, but we might need to re-evaluate things if there’s no improvement.

Apart from the above, the club is working well, the squad is quietly getting stronger by the week as our new players settle in and as our existing players start to view the finishing line. I do feel as the pitches quicken and improve that, as a pass and move side, we will be more than capable of dealing with the run in…. I say that as I know we have nous, ambition, work rate and the ability to go on a run and perhaps nick third spot which would be one hell of an achievement for a club our size".

As fpor the Wood's National League Cip Final at home to Wrest Ham United U21s, Hunter states thst "This Cup Final really does promise to be a great occasion for a club and community of our size and for the very first time ever we have actually sold out three hospitality areas and it is exciting to welcome a club of West Ham’s stature who are taking the game seriously and are also treating it as a great occasion".

Scunthorpe United "confirm first team manager Andy Butler and assistant manager John Schofield have both signed new contracts with the club, which will run until the summer of 2028.

Leading the club back to the National League in his first season as a manager, Butler and his assistant Schofield earned a contract extension back in October 2024 following an impressive start, with the Iron then sitting top of the Vanarama National League North..

From there, Butler, along with Schofield and the backroom staff would lead the team to promotion via the play-offs in a record-breaking campaign...

Butler, now 42, returned to the club in the autumn of 2022... before succeeding him as manager in the summer of 2024. As a player, he featured for the club over two spells, firstly between 2002 and 2008 before a return in 2019-20...

Scunthorpe United can also confirm goalkeeper coach Paul Musselwhite has also penned improved terms with the Iron as he comes towards the end of his thirteenth campaign in his role".

Woking "announce the signing of Kian Pennant from Sky Bet Championship side Leicester City.

Pennant, 21, joined the Foxes academy system in 2019 and was a regular in their U21 side. He scored his side’s only goal against Juventus U21’s in the Premier League International Cup back in September. After that, he joined fellow Enterprise National League side Gateshead on loan, scoring against Sutton United back in November this season.

Kian has been capped by England at youth level...

Director of Football, Jody Brown, had this to say, 'Kian’s got elite-level pace and athleticism, he’s left-footed, and he’s a goal threat. He can play wide or central'">

Carlisle United's "Heritage Group hosted a special archive event at the University of Cumbria's Brampton Road Campus...

Guests also had the opportunity to chat with first team players Elliot Embleton and Josh Williams, alongside former Blues Bobby Parker and George McVitie.

Visitors were able to explore a wide selection of items from the Carlisle United archive, presented as a pop-up exhibition in the Vallum Gallery. Media students from the university were also given the chance to gain practical experience by interviewing guests during the event.

Representatives from the Supporters’ Trust and the London Branch were also in attendance, recognising their generous £500 donations each towards a contingency fund for CUHG.

The funds will help support the refurbishment of display cabinets received from Tullie and assist with costs involved in establishing the club’s archive...

Tom Little, Head of Marketing and Media said 'This type of initiative is what the club is about, engaging with fans across the city and county and hopefully bringing some new supporters down to Brunton Park'".

Sutton United boss "Chris Agutter says his side are full of confidence ahead of tomorrow’s... clash with Morecambe.

The U’s will be looking to build on back-to-back positive away results, including a strong 2–0 win over Hartlepool United earlier this week...

'We’re very confident,' said Agutter. 'We’re playing well. We’re building momentum again, which is great. We’ve played some really good football and we’re looking forward to the challenge of an improved Morecambe side.

'They’ve changed manager and their approach is very different. I think it’s fairly safe to say that has led to significant improvement'...

Sutton now sit six points above the drop zone, with the recent run of results helping to strengthen belief within the squad... after a chaotic campaign so far....

'I’ve said a few times since we came in – we’re not a bottom-half team. We won’t be a million miles away from the right end of the table that we want to be at.'" stated Agutter.

Agutter went on to say that... 'There is a lot of difference between the Morecambe we played down at their place and the Morecambe we’ll play tomorrow. They look a lot more robust and we know they’re going to put up one hell of a fight...

'It’s us versus ourselves,' he said... 'If you look at our goal difference and the amount of draws we’ve had, that’s been the problem. Turn a few of those draws into wins and we’re pushing for the playoffs.'”

NEXT: TRURO CITY

As Altrincham face Truro City on Saturday at the J. Davidson Stadium, they have no fewer than four rival teams who are just a single point behind them. All except Eastleigh also have a fixture on Saturday.

All four clubs are from the south; Woking, Sutton United, Wealdstone and Eastleigh and Alty have still to play their reverse fixtures against all of those clubs except for Wealdstone.

Avoiding the drop is within Altrincham's own hands as there are now seven clubs (including Sutton United and Eastleigh) whose maximum points haul this season is a lower total than can be achieved by the Robins.

CHARITY GAME AT ALTRINCHAM

Altrincham FC announce that "The J.Davidson Stadium is playing host to an exciting charity match on Sunday, April 26th with Wythenshawe Vets taking on the Once Upon a Smile Celebrity Team.

Desbois has previously appeared for Cheshunt and Hampton & Richmond Borough in the sixth tier, after spending his academy days with Reading and Brighton & Hove Albion

Footnote: Desbois was the goalkeeper for Slough Town when they knocked Altrincham out of the FA Cup this season.

Rochdale Head Coach "Jimmy McNulty confirmed that Harvey Gilmour has picked up a calf injury.

As, such the midfielder will miss up to five weeks, after suffering the setback in our victory at Aldershot Town at the end of February...

'Unfortunately, Harvey got a calf injury in the last game', says McNulty. 'He sprung [sic] off the ground and in that moment felt something.

'We’ve had that scanned and it’s looking like a five-week injury, which is of course a loss...

'His form is challenged by the guys supporting him in that particular position, Casey Pettit, Ed Francis, Ryan East'.

Harvey will be joining Tobi Adebayo-Rowling and Sam Beckwith on the sidelines".

In response tothe news of a transfer embargo, Morecambe "confirm that the club has been placed under an embargo by the National League following a disputed payment issue relating to Bond Group Investments.

The club is aware of the matter and has been in communication with the National League throughout the process. This commercial dispute is currently being handled by Panjab Warriors’ solicitors.

The club’s position is very clear that no such payments were ever part of the acquisition of Morecambe Football Club, and this can be verified via the final sale and purchase agreement that was agreed to by all parties and supervised by the EFL back in August 2025 on completion of the sale.

The club can also categorically confirm that all sums outstanding were duly settled prior to Monday 18 August 2025, in accordance with the National League Regulations, after which completion was instigated.

Morecambe FC remains committed to working with the relevant parties to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and will provide further updates when appropriate.

NATIONAL NORTH NEWS

On Saturday, Altrincham play Truro City at the J. Davidson Stadium.

The Tinners have won just once on the road this season, at Morecambe, but they secured an excellent point at Roots Hall on Tuesday against a Southend side currently occupying the last play-off place.

Nevertheless, The Tinners find themselves bottom of the National League, eleven points from safety.

With three wins in their last four outings, Altrincham's form has greatly improved recently and they will start this game lying 15th, albeit having played more games than two of the clubs below them who could catch them by winning their matches in hand.

Altrincham won the reverse fixture in Cornwall, 1-0.

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports on Wednesday's action...

National League : There were 93 minutes on the clock at the International Stadium when KEATON WARD (right) struck the only goal for Gateshead against Braintree Town.

And from Macclesfield FC comes news that "former forward and fan’s favourite MERRICK CORFIELD has sadly passed away.

An intelligent and innovative player, Merrick enjoyed a glittering career at the Moss Rose over two spells between 1967 and 1973. A member of our inaugural FA Trophy-winning team back in 1970, Merrick was also voted Player of the Year at the end of that season.

A double Northern Premier League winner, Merrick’s legacy will be etched into the fabric of our Club forevermore. May he rest in peace".

Footnote: Merrick played for Altrincham in 1971-72 season.

The National League reports on "Current embargoes" stating that "The National League may place a Club under embargo if it meets one of the following criteria:
  • (a) where a Club has undergone an Insolvency Event;
  • (b) where a Club has been served with a winding-up petition which has not been satisfied in full or to the satisfaction of the petitioning creditors as evidenced by written agreement; or
  • (c) where a Club has either defaulted on such an agreement or has omitted or incorrectly reported its failure to adhere to the terms of any agreement.

An embargo prevents the Club from signing a new player or changing the terms of an existing loan, except where the terms of the Embargo allow.

An embargo is separate and without prejudice to any other penalties that the League may impose against the Club, including for financial breaches.

Below are embargoes that have been active within the past 30 days:

  • Chorley, Non-compliance with League Financial Regulations, Start Date 9 February 2026
  • Morecambe, Non-compliance with League Financial Regulations, Start Date 27 February 2026

The BBC reports that "Gateshead have signed Grimsby winger Zak Gilsenan on loan until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old Irishman recently scored three goals in nine league appearances on loan at National League North side Buxton.

Gilsenan... joined the Mariners from Blackburn last summer".

The player himself said that Gateshead "see me as being a creative spark and that's what I want to be...

"I like to get the ball forward, see passes, try to make things happen and get fans on the edge of their seats".

At the other end of the table, Rochdale point out that "Following Tuesday night’s 3-2 win over Brackley Town, Dale have reached a new record points haul for a league campaign.

Jimmy McNulty’s men have taken an incredible 85 points, with 11 games remaining.

27 wins from our 35 games so far, along with four draws, have seen us top the Enterprise National League as it stands.

Our previous record total was 82... If Dale were to continue their current points-per-game ratio, which stands at 2.43, we will be on track for 112 points come the end of the campaign. For reference, the current National League points record is 111, set by Wrexham in 2023".

Solihull Moors report that former Gateshead man "Ben Worman said...

'I think we’ve had a patchy spell of results. We’ve played well for certain periods of certain games, but we need to put that into 90 minutes now and have a good performance over a bit more of a longer period of time and most importantly, get three points and hopefully we can do that in front of a home crowd...

'We don’t really keep an eye on specific teams, just our own performance and our own collective responsibility in getting three points. I think even though we’ve lost and been on the wrong end of results recently, obviously we got a point on Saturday, but the results previous to that, they’re all games that we’ve played well enough and at stages to see that we’re capable of winning it in the end.

'We’re just taking each game as it comes, trying to attack as much as possible and ultimately just getting as many wins underboard [sic] now from now to the end of the season.'”

Wealdstone's new manager "Garry Waddock reflected the frustration of players and supporters alike as Wealdstone couldn't make the most of their chances against a rejuvenated Morecambe at The Vale.

The Shrimps won 3-2, but the scoreline could have had a very one-sided look by half-time if Stones had maximised the benefit of purposeful build-up and an up-tempo approach to the game.

'If you don't take your chances you get punished', rued new Royals' boss Waddock after his first match at the helm.

'They're a good side and with a new manager who knows the club really well and they've put in some good performances lately,' he added of visitors Morecambe...

'We need to be more clinical and I feel for the players tonight; they should have got something out of the game'.

Coming in mid-season, with the club having already recruited for a system and formation, Waddock didn't think it was right to change too much too soon".

Next Saturday, Altrincham welcome Truro City to the J. Davidson Stadium.

Whilst Altrincham had no midweek game, The Tinners travelled to Southend United on Tuesday where they secured a very creditable 1-1 draw against the play-off aspirants.

However, the point gained did not lift them out of the bottom place in the Enterprise National League. They are eleven points from safety.

"Charley Kendall's equaliser rescued a point for Southend United, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Truro City at Roots Hall.

Rekeil Pyke put the visitors ahead just after the half-hour mark, before Kendall smashed home his fifth goal of the season to start the second half.

The Shrimpers hit the woodwork twice shortly afterwards and tested Tinners keeper Aidan Stone on a number of occasions throughout the match, but were unable to find the second goal to earn the three points....

The draw moves Southend back into the play-offs ahead of FC Halifax Town on goal difference, with a trip to Carlisle United to look forward to on Saturday".

ALTY WOMEN HIT SIX

For Altrincham FC, Ben Edwards reports that last Sunday "Daryll Abrahams’s [Altrincham FC Women's] side got back to winning ways, picking up a 6-1 victory at home against Liverpool Feds Reserves, thanks to braces from Georgia McKnight, Fran Boyle and Kira Saycell....

The Elite U18s were in action on the other pitch at Partington Sports Village, winning 4-2 over West Kirby U18 Women in the Cheshire Women & Youth Football League U18 Premier Division".

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports on Tuesday's games...

Professional Development League : Captained by JACK KINGDON, Cardiff City U21 drew 1-1 away to their Millwall counterparts.

PHIL PARKINSON didn't get off to the best of starts in his new role coaching Fleetwood Town U21. Having led at half time, they conceded 3 times to their visitors from Huddersfield Town.

Welsh Premier League Championship Group : Connah's Quay Nomads manager JOHN DISNEY has now made JAMES JONES (right) his captain, but their chances of catching up with leaders TNS diminished as their 1-2 loss at the Essity Stadium increased the gap to 18 points. To rub salt in James's wounds, he also picked up a yellow card against the club where he started his career.

League One : Wycombe Wanderers scored the only goal of the game just before the hour at Barnsley, and immediately withdrew JUNIOR QUITIRNA.

Rotherham United withdrew DUNCAN WATMORE at half time, but could still only muster a goalless draw at home to Mansfield Town.

League Two : Tranmere Rovers were still without CONNOR JENNINGS at Newport County, whose 3-1 win pulled them out of the relegation spots for the first time this season at the expense of Barrow.

MARCUS DINANGA watched from the bench as Bromley were held to a goalless draw by visitors Oldham Athletic.

Chesterfield gave JAMES BERRY a rare start, but withdrew him after 69 minutes shortly before wrapping up a 3-0 home win over Colchester United.

Grimsby Town left JUSTIN AMALUZOR on the bench as they dispatched visitors Salford City 3-1.

National League : It was an unhappy return to Boreham Wood for JEFF KING as York City lost 3-2, and he was withdrawn after 66 minutes soon after they went down to 10 men. ALEX NEWBY (left) came off the bench 5 minutes later. The result helped Rochdale to regain top spot with a 3-2 home win over Brackley Town.

CONNOR TEALE played the full game as Boston United drew 2-2 at home to Woking.

TYRESE SINCLAIR was withdrawn after 80 minutes as Hartlepool United lost 0-2 to visitors Sutton United.

JACK HINCHY has joined Wealdstone on loan from Notts County, and went straight into the starting XI at home to Morecambe. He was withdrawn after 94 minutes. The Shrimps brought on JOE NUTTALL after 87 minutes, shortly after going down to 10 men, and held on to win 2-3.

Tonight's results saw Altrincham drop one place to 15th, the team that overtook them being Yeovil Town who beat visitors Tamworth, for whom KENNEDY DIGIE played the full game, 2-0. The Glovers brought KYLE FERGUSON off the bench after 88 minutes, leaving MATT GOULD as one of their only two unused substitutes.

Coupe de France : Strasbourg's 2-1 home victory over Reims saw them through to the semi final. MAXI OYEDELE was an unused substitute.

National North : Unfazed by reports of an arson attack at Moss Rose overnight (apparently a small fire in an outbuilding) Macclesfield won 1-2 at Darlington, with JAMES GALE notching both goals, the first of them remarkably from further out than 2 yards, though the second was his customary tap-in. James started alongside ELLIOTT OSBORNE and SAM HEATHCOTE. KACPER PASIEK was an unused substitute

CRAIG MAHON'S AFC Fylde lost the chance to overtake South Shields at the top of the league, going down 2-1 on Tyneside. CHRIS MERRIE played the full game for the Coasters, but GEORGE WILSON stayed on the bench, while LIAM BROCKBANK is still out injured.

National South : MILES WELCH-HAYES played the first 70 minutes for Maidenhead United as they won 2-0 at home to AFC Totton.

It had been 33 years since Neil Warnock selected a Torquay United team, and he didn't have the injured CALLUM DOLAN available. The Gulls came from behind to draw 2-2 with visitors Farnborough Town.

Southern League Central : At three-quarter time, Quorn looked dead and buried at Bury Town as they trailed 4-1. But the Suffolk club reckoned without ZAK GOODSON (right) who notched a hat trick to earn a 4-4 draw - the second of his goals was a penalty.

NPL Division 1 West : There was a 6 goal thriller at the Berry Street Garage Stadium. Hosts Bootle had both TONY THOMPSON and TOM HANNIGAN booked as they played the whole game, while Vauxhall Motors reinstated Robins loanee YASSINE TOURE to the starting XI, and he scored the 88th minute goal that gave them a 3-3 draw. KEVIN ELLISON was withdrawn by Motors after 74 minutes.

CHESHIRE NEWS

The BBC reports that "Macclesfield Football Club's ground has been targeted by arsonists, police said.

Cheshire Police said a deliberate fire had been set in two portable toilets at the Moss Rose stadium on London Road at about 01:15 GMT.

The club, which competes in National League North in the sixth tier of English football, said the 'situation was under control' and no injuries had been reported.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said officers arrived at the stadium and found an outbuilding next to the club shop 'well alight'.

The fire service said it had attended after receiving reports of a fire visible over a wall into the stadium, and concluded it had been started deliberately.

A spokesperson said 'Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze using hose reel water jets.

'They remained at the scene until 04:30, damping down and using a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots'.

Cheshire Police said enquiries were ongoing".

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL NEWS

The Deck reports that "FGR forward Ricardo Rees is set to miss the remainder of the 2025/26 season after sustaining an injury against Gateshead.

He’s torn ankle ligaments and isn't likely to play again this campaign.

Big blow for Forest Green".

Footnote: Rees was only signed from Merthyr Town at the end of December.

Boreham Wood chairman Danny Hunter muses, "Who knows what 2026 might bring us? The permutations at this stage of the season are of course endless with us sitting in fourth place in the league and having reached the final of the National League Cup...

Pressure can at times suffocate some of the bigger clubs as Southend United and perhaps Carlisle United are now finding out. York City though it appears are handling things very well up to now under Stuart Maynard and they also have a very loyal but expectant support base to satisfy and at the moment they are dealing with things beautifully....

There’s no doubt Luke [Garrard, Boreham Wood manager] and the dressing room are still targeting third, but I know we will experience weeks where we will take one step forward and two steps back until the season’s end. That said, for a club our size just to be in the play-off mix, shows how well we are run, how good recruitment has been and what a job Luke Garrard, his staff and the dressing room are doing.

Tomorrow evening, I must belatedly thank York City for allowing us to take JEFF KING on his initial loan... In truth, we did everything we could to keep him, and I discussed with the York hierarchy the possibility of taking him on a permanent deal. However, it was made very clear that No meant No and as everyone can see, Kingy is now very much in Stuart Maynard’s plans.

On the injury front we still have Callum Reynolds, Erico Sousa, Ollie Kensdale, Luke Norris and Tom White out but now only for the short term which means we are slightly light in one or two positions but nothing that we cannot deal with and hopefully we can expect another signing soon...

After the pressure of relegation two seasons ago, the pressure of promotion last season, I must say I feel no pressure this season, just expectation and excitement".

Woking have provided "an update on the pitch...

Since last week’s match was called off, the club has been working extensively with a number of independent specialists to assess both the ongoing drainage challenges and the damage sustained in the goalmouth area.

Work has now been completed in servicing the existing drainage system. This has included using underground camera mapping technology to inspect the entire drainage network, along with high-pressure water jetting to clear blockages and restore the system as effectively as possible.

In parallel, particular attention has been given to the damaged section of the penalty area by the Seymours Stand, which match officials identified as a safety concern during the last two home fixtures... This involved removing the affected goalmouth section entirely and relaying it with a high-quality hybrid turf system similar to those used in top-level stadiums".

It's one in and one out at Boston United who "have completed the signing of former Brighton & Hove Albion winger Luca Barrington.

The 21-year-old, who spent his formative years in the academy at Manchester City, made 43 appearances during a loan spell in the EFL with Grimsby Town last season, scoring four goals in the process.

Barrington has been without a club so far this season...

He is registered and eligible to make his debut against Woking on Tuesday evening".

Heading out of Boston United is "goalkeeper Bobby Jones[who] has departed the club by mutual consent.

The 24-year-old was recalled from his loan spell at Chester FC to facilitate his exit - and subsequent move to the Cestrians on a permanent basis.

Jones made three competitive appearances for the Pilgrims - all in the National League Cup".

Following Carlisle United’s 2–1 victory away to Eastleigh, we spoke to Mark Hughes...

'I thought it was a challenge for us because we knew how they want to play, a new manager as well, obviously very direct, looking to hit long balls'[he said].

'It was difficult to get the ball down and play our normal game but you have to earn the right to play, and I thought we did that. Eventually, our quality came through, and we were able to take the game away from them, so yeah, really pleased...

'We didn't want back-to-back defeats, so it was important to get back to winning ways, and we've been able to do that... Apart from one moment, they created very little...

'I thought he (REGAN LINNEY) looked more like his old self. He was getting shots off, taking people on, and all that was missing today really was that goal. He’ll be pleased with the performance. When Regan's flying, we all know the quality that he has, so it's only a matter of time before he gets back on the scoresheet...

Stephen Wearne 's been really good since I brought him back into the side, pushing for man of the match in most games. He brings energy, and he's a goal threat as well. He’s scored a lot of goals at previous clubs, and now he's starting to do the same for us'".

Wealdstone "confirm the signing of midfielder JACK HINCHY (below, right) from League Two promotion-chasers Notts County, on a loan deal until the end of this season.

The 23-year-old played for the Pies in league action as recently as mid-February, one of three appearances for his parent club during this campaign... The first game he featured in on loan at Altrincham earlier this term was a 1-1 draw here at The Vale back in early October.

He played a further three times for Alty before County recalled the playmaker due to several midfield injuries at Meadow Lane...

Since signing for Notts permanently in summer 2024, the Swindon-born schemer has racked up 34 first-team appearances along with one senior career goal to his name.

Said Stones' boss Gary Waddock of Hinchy's capture 'Jack's a good character and a really good footballer... I know he's the type of player the club has been looking for so I'm delighted to have him in our group,' added Waddock.

'He gets on the ball and wants to play, bringing that calmness and composure'".

Altrincham welcome Truro City to the JDS on Saturday.

Truro City currently lie bottom of the National League with 24 points from 34 games. Just six points have been earned away from home by Truro; on the road they have just a single win to their name, gained at Morecambe.

Since that win they have lost their last five league games on the run.

Their only player to figure in all 34 league fixtures this season is Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has started 31 of those games.

Their joint leading scorers are Luke Jephcott and Tyler Harvey who each have five goals to their name.

Last Saturday, The Tinners lost 2-3 at home to a very late goal from Braintree Town.

Their line up for that match comprised 24. Aidan Stone, 3. Connor Riley-Lowe (c), 4. Will Dean, 9. Tyler Harvey, 12. Oxlade-Chamberlain, 15. Luke Jephcott, 17. Caleb Roberts, 18. Freddie Issaka, 25. Shaun Donnellan, 32. Harry Charsley, Cooper. Subs: 1. Dan Lavercombe (gk), 2. Zac Bell, 5. Tom Harrison, 19. Rekell Pyke, 20. Ryan Law, 22. Jack Stretton, 29. Harry Kite.

ALTY THROUGH THE YEARS: 7 MARCH

When Altrincham welcome Truro City to the J. Davidson Stadium on Saturday it will be six years to the day since the Robins sealed a place in the National North promotion play-offs by beating Spennymoor Town 4-1, in what was to prove to be their last regular league fixture before the Covid-induced suspension of the National League.

It would be another four months before the play-offs took place, behind closed doors.

The win on 7 March 2020 restored Alty to fifth place on an afternoon when their play-off cause was aided as rivals Chester FC and Gateshead lost, and Boston only drew.

However, the game against Spennymoor was not the one-sided affair suggested by the final score but, nevertheless, Altrincham were well-deserving winners.

Above: Six years ago on Saturday, in their final match before COVID intervened, Jordan Hulme (9) watched as his superb shot dipped into the top corner of Spennymoor keeper Matt Gould's net to make it 4-1. Matt was later to join Altrincham, of course.

Right: Jordan Hulme and Elliott Durrell netted three of Alty's goals against Spennymoor

The hosts got off to a great start as, in just the third minute, Elliott Durrell continued his run of scoring in every game for Altrincham with his fourth in four outings since joining the club.

A superb cross-field ball from man of the match Josh Lundstram led to the second goal for Alty in the 39th minute when Hulme fired home across the keeper to make it 2-0. The Moors started the second half with a purpose and got back into the game in the 52nd minute. Right-back Forbes was allowed to advance in space before hitting a fine shot into the top left-corner of Thompson's net from nearly 30 yards.

In retrospect the turning point was a fine save by Thompson from Ramsdale, six minutes later.

Midway through the half Alty regained their two-goal lead when Tom Hannigan's diving header converted Mooney's corner from the left (68 mins).

Alty's fourth goal came in the last minute of normal time. Hulme was located in space, outside the box, left of goal. Almost nonchalantly he hit a superb dipping shot into the far, top corner of Gould's net.

ISUZU FA TROPHY SEMI-FINALS

  • Southport v Southend United
  • Wealdstone v Marine

The semi-finals take place on Saturday, 28 March, with the final, which is at Wembley Stadium, taking place on Sunday, 17 May.

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports on Monday's action...

Premier League 2 : The timing of SONNY ALJOFREE's substitution in added time at the end of the first half would suggest he picked up an injury. Manchester United U21 were beaten 0-2 at home by their Chelsea counterparts, who leapfrogged them to top the table. Only 2 points separate the top 5 clubs.

Irish Premier Division : Although St.Patrick's totally dominated visitors Galway United, only 4 of their 22 goal attempts were on target, and it was only in the 90th minute that they managed to find the target and win 1-0. BARRY BAGGLEY played the full game, although he picked up a yellow card.

Meanwhile, Scotland's Killie Chronicle reports that MARCUS DACKERS (right) "is set to leave Kilmarnock to seal [a] six-figure move to South Korea, the Killie Chronicle understands.

The former Manchester City youth joined in the summer and made 30 appearances this term, scoring four goals, but has seen limited action in recent times.

Having been given two minutes off the bench in the 3-0 win over Aberdeen, he was brought on for the final eight of the defeat to Celtic and was not even among the substitutes for the draw with Dundee United last weekend, nor yesterday at Falkirk".

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

From Ipswich, the independent TWTD site reports that "Released academy midfielder Emmanuel Okunowo has rejoined his former loan side Braintree Town.

The 20-year-old officially left the Blues [Ipswich Town] last summer having been with the club since he was eight, but has remained at Playford Road while recovering from an injury suffered during his loan spell with the Iron in the second half of last season.

Okunowo, who also had a loan stint at Needham while with Town, made his second debut for the National League side as a sub during Saturday’s 3-2 victory, assisting the winning goal for Aidan Francis-Clarke in the fifth minute of injury time.

Former Blues centre-half Tommy Smith also came off the bench for the Essex side, who are now fourth from bottom, three points off safety".

BRACKLEY MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

Alty TV has eight minutes of highlights from Altrincham's win at Brackley last Saturday.

NEXT: TRURO CITY

Truro City will become the first club from Cornwall to play a competitive match in Altrincham when they visit next Saturday for a National League fixture.

The reverse fixture ended in a 1-0 win for Altrincham against the Cornish side who are currently bottom of the league table.

Their manager is John Askey, a familiar face in Cheshire as the former manager of Macclesfield Town.

The Cornish Times reports that, on Saturday, "Aidan Francis-Clarke scored five minutes into second half stoppage time to see Braintree Town to a narrow 3-2 win at Truro City.

The Tinners turned the game on its head however, with Freddie Issaka equalising on the cusp of half-time, before an own goal put City in front shortly after the hour.

Back came Braintree though, with Francis-Clarke diverting a header past Aidan Stone ten minutes from the end prior to his match-winning touch deep in added time.

Luke Jephcott was rewarded for scoring from the bench in Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat at Eastleigh with a place in the starting XI, at the expense of an injured Lirak Hasani, in the only change made by manager John Askey..

Fine margins meant, moments after being the width of the post away from winning it, the Tinners were in fact losing it when Francis-Clarke turned home a loose ball, leaving Truro 12 points adrift with as many games to play".

21ST NATIONAL LEAGUE MANAGER GOES

In a statement issued on Sunday evening, Woking "confirm that Manager Neal Ardley and Assistant Manager Simon Bassey have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect.

Right: Neal Ardley, pictured at Altrincham when Woking were the visitors in October 2025.

This decision follows a decline in performances over the past two months which saw us go from within touching distance of the play-off positions and the opportunity of reaching the FA Trophy semi-finals to where we find ourselves today.

Chairman Todd Johnson said 'We’ve reached the conclusion that it’s time to make a change. Ultimately, this is a results-oriented business, and the results did not match our ambitions. Our focus is on building a positive, club-oriented, winning culture. We believe in this group of players and in creating the right environment for them to play with confidence, intent and ambition'.

The Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Neal and Simon for their contributions over the past 14 months, particularly their role in helping to stabilise the Club during a challenging period upon their arrival in December 2024, and wishes them both every success in the future. The wider staff structure and football framework remain in place, ensuring continuity as we move forward. In the interim Craig Ross, Jake Hyde and Dale Gorman will take charge of the team".

Footnote: So, below, we produce yet another update on the departures of National League managers since the end of last season. The total is now 21 managers who have been sacked or resigned from National League clubs since May 2025, a period of ten months.

Those 21 departures have occurred at sixteen of the 24 current members of the National League over a period of ten months, with Morecambe, Yeovil Town, Gateshead, Eastleigh and Wealdstone changing manager twice.

Changes between the end of the 2024/25 season and the start of the 2025/26 season:

  1. FC HALIFAX TOWN Chris Millington left and Adam Lakeland was appointed
  2. FOREST GREEN ROVERS sacked Steve Cotterill and appointed Robbie Savage
  3. GATESHEAD Carl Magnay resigned and was replaced by Alun Armstrong
  4. WEALDSTONE Neil Gibson resigned and the club appointed Sam Cox.

Departures since start of the 2025/26 season:

The seventeen departures (so far) since the start of this season are listed below; all were sackings unless otherwise stated...

  1. MORECAMBE: Derek Adams, sacked on 18 August 2025, replaced by Ashvir Singh Johal
  2. YORK CITY: Adam Hinshelwood, replaced by Stuart Maynard
  3. YEOVIL TOWN: Mark Cooper, replaced by Danny Webb
  4. SOLIHULL MOORS: Matt Taylor, replaced by Chris Millington
  5. SUTTON UNITED Steve Morison, replaced by Chris Agutter
  6. EASTLEIGH: Kelvin Davis, replaced by Scott Bartlett
  7. YEOVIL TOWN: Danny Webb (resignation), replaced by Billy Rowley
  8. HARTLEPOOL UNITED: Simon Grayson, replaced by Nicky Featherstone
  9. ALDERSHOT TOWN: Tommy Widdrington (resignation), replaced by John Coleman
  10. ALTRINCHAM: Phil Parkinson, replaced by Neil Gibson
  11. GATESHEAD: Alun Armstrong moved to a new role, replaced by Rob Elliot
  12. BOSTON UNITED: "Parted company" with Graham Coughlan, replaced by Paul Hurst
  13. BRACKLEY TOWN: "Resignation" of Gavin Cowan, appointed at Shrewsbury Town, replaced by Andy Whing
  14. MORECAMBE: "Mutually agreed to part ways" with Ashvir Singh Johal, replaced by Jim Bentley
  15. EASTLEIGH: Scott Bartlett, "relieved of his duties", replaced as "interim manager" by Richard Hill
  16. WEALDSTONE: Sam Cox, "removed from his position as manager", replaced by Gary Waddock
  17. WOKING: Neal Ardley, "relieved of duties"

The eight clubs still employing the manager who was with them at the end of last season are Rochdale, Boreham Wood, Carlisle United, Scunthorpe United, Southend United, Tamworth, Braintree Town and Truro City.

Four of those eight clubs were not in the National League last season; Carlisle were relegated from EFL2, whilst Scunthorpe United, Boreham Wood and Truro City were promoted from the regional divisions.

So, Rochdale, Southend United, Tamworth and Braintree Town are the only four clubs which were in the National League last season and remain there this season with the same manager who completed last season with the club.

Jimmy McNulty (Rochdale), Kevin Maher (Southend United), Andy Peaks (Tamworth) and Steve Pitt (Braintree Town) are the quartet of great survivors. Former Brackley Town boss Gavin Cowan also merits a mention as he remains the only one of the 21 departing managers who moved on to become manager at a higher-ranked club; in his case, Shrewsbury Town.

CHESHIRE NEWS

It was previously announced that Calum would depart at the end of the season. However, all parties believe it is now in the best interests of the football club to part company with immediate effect".

The club later confirmed that "Connell Rawlinson has been named as Interim First Team Manager".

Cup finals don’t come around often, and if we want to lift silverware against top opposition on home soil, we need the Wood Army louder than ever. Pack the North Bank, fill Meadow Park to the rafters, and drive your local club forward as the Wood chase another night to remember in WD6!"

Scunthorpe United "announce the loan signing of youthful forward Leo Farrell, who joins the club from EFL League One side Barnsley FC on an initial 28 day-loan.

Starting his career with his local side, the Tykes, Farrell is a direct forward who has broken into the first team for the Yorkshire-based club in recent months, featuring off the bench for Connor Hourihane's side on several occasions...

Farrell is no stranger to the men's game, previously gaining experience in the Northern Premier League across several spells with Guiseley AFC... before a season-ending injury ...

Earlier this campaign, the 20-year-old returned to Guiseley on a short-term deal that was due to run until January... before being recalled back to Barnsley in order to link back up with their first-team squad on a more regular basis".

Another new face at Scunthorpe United is 19 year-old "versatile defender Zain Tahir [on loan] from EFL Championship side Sheffield United for the remainder of the season.

With the ability to play as a centre-back or at left-back, Tahir has... made the permanent step up to the Under 21s, where he's already been a regular across the past couple of seasons...

Having been a key figure in Sheffield United's Professional Development League National title winning season last campaign, the defender signed his first professional contract with the Blades in 2025".

AFTER THE GAME: NEIL GIBSON

Speaking to Alty TV after the 2-0 win at Brackley, Alty boss Neil Gibson told Laurence Howarth about some "honest conversations" after the defeat at Tamworth. Beating Brackley was a third win in four games, he pointed out.

A new managerial appointment at Brackley and his new signings made planning to face the Saints difficult.

Neil admitted that his players were "a bit sluggish" in the first twenty minutes and pointed out that Brackley were a threat from dead balls and corners.

With Eddy Jones playing in the back three, Liam Humbles (left) in an unaccustomed role at left wing-back was praised by Neil. "Humbles was magnificent" he said.

As for Luke Hutchinson's tip onto the bar, the manager said of his goalkeeper, "his potential is massive".

Neil also praised his assistant Lee Jones for his organisation of the players at set-pieces.

The Alty manager was frustrated that Tom Crawford had "scored" by converting a corner in the second half only for the referee to disallow the goal, having blown his whistle early. Although he then awarded a penalty instead, this was missed by Declan Howe.

AFTER THE GAME: ANDY WHING

Brackley Town's manager Andy Whing told the Non-League Paper, after the game against Altrincham on Saturday, that "It is bitterly disappointing not to have won that game.

"I thought we were excellent and especially in the first half.

"I don't know how we were not two or three goals up after the first half performance".

BRACKLEY TOWN 0-2 ALTRINCHAM

In a fairly even first half, nevertheless Alty had to weather five corners and several freekicks. Ironically, the visitors took a 44th minute from the Robins' first corner when Jake Cooper netted with a fine volleyed effort, from towards the back post.

In the second half, Altrincham withstood a period of pressure before getting back into the game. They won a penalty from a corner but Howe missed it, allowing Maxted to save with his legs (84 mins).

Deep in added time Reed fed Howe who got behind his defender, rounded the keepr and netted to make amends for his penalty miss (90+5 mins).

The win lifted Altrincham up to fourteenth and was their first double over another team this season.

Altrincham made four changes for the game. Golden and Sassi were suspended, whilst Forde and Reddin dropped to the bench. Into the eleven came Jones, Crankshaw, Grant and Humbles.
