Altrincham Football Club Reserves, 2000-01 Season: Part 2

League Table and Squad Details

This season has, so far, seen a number of the Reserve team squad breakthrough into the first team as Mark Ward places a strong emphasis on the development of young players. The players involved in first-team action this season, so far, include Ian Craney, Eric Seekie, Otis Thomas and James Glendenning. Altrincham's Reserves are managed by Joey Dunn and their home matches are played at Moss Lane, normally on a Wednesday evening with a 7-30pm kick-off. The Reserves compete in the Lancashire League, alongside Reserve sides from both higher and lower levels of the non-League football pyramid.

Original table kindly provided by Bob Allan. Runcorn appear to have resigned from the league after playing six games without a win; their records have been deleted in the following table. Their only point was a draw with Altrincham!

Reserves' Squad Members 2000-01

  • Terry BOWKER
    Terry is a centre-back who was formerly at Bamber Bridge, having previously been at Moss Lane. He played just one league game for the Bridge. He has now established himself in the first eleven.

  • Philip BURTON A young centre-back.

  • Pat CLAFFEY A tall and very reliable centre-back who has progressed from the Youth team. Scored a fine headed goal at Ashton in March.
  • Ian CRANEY

    Ian is a pacy young midfielder who made his first-team debut against Emley on 9 September, 2000, after impressing in the Reserves. Formerly at Runcorn, Ian has a powerful long-range shot in his armoury. He is now a regular in the first-team squad.



  • Paul CROWTHER A tall, left-sided midfielder, who has graduated from the Youth side this season.

  • Greg DUFF
    Greg, a centre-back, was signed by Mark Ward from Manchester City's youth team.

  • Danny FROST
    Like Keith Mairs and Carl Jackson, Danny progressed from the Altrincham Youth squad. He is a skilful right-sided midfielder.

  • James GLENDENNING
    James (seen on the left of the photo, with Gary Talbot) is a tall Liverpudlian centre-back signed from Kendal Town, (formerly Netherfield Kendal). He has also had a spell at Ashton United. James made his first-team Altrincham debut as a substitute against Spennymoor (away) on 23 September 2000 but played in a forward position on that occasion. He has since made his first-team full debut, against Stalybridge (3 October 2000) and established himself as a regular first-team squad player but was then released to St Helen's Town.

  • Phil HALL
    Phil is a midfielder.

  • Carl JACKSON
    Carl is a striker who has come through from the Youth side. He has good ball skills and pace.

  • Paul JOHNSON
    Paul is a verstaile defender who can play in any of the back-four positions. He was formerly at Chester City and Runcorn and has been a trialist at Wigan Athletic and Tranmere Rovers.

  • Levi KENNEDY
    A tall midfielder, Levi made his breakthrough from the Youth side to the Reserves for the game against Southport on 1 September, 2000.

  • Ryan McMAHON
    A goalkeeper who certainly impressed in the match against Leigh RMI Reserves this season, even though Altrincham lost. He made his first-team debut in the 0-3 FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round defeat to Mossley on 30 September 2000. Now at Prescot Cables.

  • Keith MAIRS

    Keith has been on the fringes of the first team and made the bench as a substitute against Scarborough in the Conference, last season. He has been with the Club for some time, having progressed from the Youth team. Was a sub in this season's league game at home to Burscough and has since started a number of first team games.


  • Gareth MOSTYN A striker who has been finding the net regularly in Spring 2001.

  • Dale NEWBROOK
    A young goalkeeper who has been at the Club for a couple of seasons and is currently performing for the Youth team.

  • Eric SEEKIE
    Lively wide-midfielder who made the breakthrough to the first team when he came on against Marine (9/12/00) and then against Whitby (23/12/00).


  • Anthony SNAGG
    Anthony is a midfielder and the Reserves' penalty-taker. He opened the scoring with a spot-kick against Abbey Hey in a pre-season friendly, where his general play also made a mark. He is pictured left in that match.





  • Otis THOMAS (aged 17)
    Otis made his first-team debut against Northwich in the Cheshire Senior Cup on 19.9.2000 and was also on the bench for the F.A. Cup tie against Mossley. He is a nimble striker who has come through the Reserves. Otis scored his first senior goal in the Trophy against Ilkeston and has had trials at both Bristol League clubs this season.

  • Neil WAKEFIELD
    Defender who made his "first-team" debut as left-back in the friendly against Manchester City on 18 October, 2000.

  • Paul WALSHAM
    One of Mark Ward's close-season acquisitions. Paul is a young right-full-back, acquired from Tranmere Rovers where he played in the youth team. Made his first team debut as a sub against Ashton United in the Unibond Challenge Cup, 9 January 2001.

  • David WILLS
    Scored in the match against Burscough Reserves, 5 January 2001.
