MATCH REPORT

Report based on information kindly supplied by George Heslop. Any errors are those of the website.

This match was switched from Prestwich's own ground, which was unfit, to that of Barrhill FC at Bolton Road, Irlam o'th' Heights. Altrincham started the better side but missed a couple of chances before taking the lead after 29 minutes. The goal came when Josh Collins put in a good ball from the left which was well finished by Steve Lunt. Altrincham continued to have the better of the game, with their keeper Richard Harrison under-employed. The first half drew to an end with the visitors a goal to the good.

In the second half Altrincham continued to dominate but in the early stages again failed to build on their lead despite having two or three chances. Then, as a number of Alty players stood off him, a Prestwich player got into the box, where he was brought down. Prestwich converted the penalty (61 mins). Immediately, manager George Heslop brought on Michael Bailey and Joel Eklongeni for Steve Lunt and Jon McEvoy, both of whom may be involved with the first team on Tuesday night at Colwyn Bay. Both Bailey and Ekolengeni went on to make strong challenges to be in the starting line-up for the game at Marine next Sunday.

ALtrincham captain Paul Glynn then progressed up the right and won a corner. He himself took the flag-kick and his finely delivered ball was headed firmly into the roof of the net by Ekolengeni (73 mins). Luke Killeen came on shortly afterwards (75 mins) as Prestwich looked for an equaliser. However, after this pressure, Altrincham finished the stronger side and retained their lead to the final whistle.
