Match Report: Rylands FC 0 Altrincham F.C. Youth 2

This match in the Bolton and District Amateur Football Combination (North West Youth Alliance Under-18s' Premier Division) took place at Wythenshawe Town on Sunday 1 October, 2000, at 2pm.

The following report is by Altrincham Youth Team manager, George Heslop and supplied courtesy of Grahame Rowley of "The Robins' Review".

This was the afternoon when something had to give, as the top two, both with 100% records clashed at Rylands Recreation Ground. The game started with Altrincham pressurising the Rylands' defence but they defended stoutly keeping them at bay. Altrincham had a firm penalty claim turned down when Mario Daniel was brought down in the box.

However, in the 13th minute, Paul Monaghan crossed first time into the box, the keeper parried Otis Thomas shot and Mario Daniel finished from close range. Altrincham could have scored on another couple of occasions but poor finishing prevented them from adding to the score. The first half finished with Rylands still well in the game.

The second half started with a bang. Altrincham knocked the ball around well and eventually space was created for Otis Thomas to give the Robins a 2-0 lead. The game continued with Altrincham creating numerous chances but the Rylands' keeper and poor finishing kept the score at 2-0. In the last 15 minutes the two goal scorers were replaced by Wright and Schofield.

With this victory, Altrincham went above their opponents and to the top of the league. In the three away games, Altrincham have yet to concede a goal. This was a good team performance, all round hard work and application, sealing a 4th consecutive victory. Man of the Match was left back André Lewis, playing out of position but not putting a foot wrong.
