Altrincham Football Club Youth Team
Squad Profiles, 2001-02.



Altrincham's Youth side are managed by George Heslop, who is ably assisted by Neil Thomason. The team plays in the Bolton and District Amateur Football Combination (North West Youth Alliance Under-18s' Premier Division) of which they were the 2000-01 champions. I am very grateful to George Heslop for his help in providing information about the Youth Team.

  • Nathan ARDAYFIO An unused sub. at Lancaster (24/3/02).
  • Michael BAILEY A tall and very promising centre-back, who is the son of former Alty player Mal Bailey.
  • Jordan BROXSON Jordan is a Manchester FA goalkeeper recruited by Altrincham for 2001-02. He made an impressive debut against Leek in the FA Youth Cup on 29 August 2001 and is the current first-choice.
  • Mark CHILAB Mark, a goalkeeper, was one of the substitutes for the Youth Cup match against Leek. Now left the Club.
  • Paul COVERLEY Paul made a strong impression last season in a match for Altrincham FA against Stockport County Youth and has also started this season well. He is a right-sided midfielder.
  • Mario DANIEL Mario is an extremely quick striker, who made his debut for the Altrincham first team as a 16 year-old substitute against Gainsborough Trinity last season. He has also played and scored for the Reserves, as well as for the NW Alliance and Manchester District. Mario is also a Trinidad & Tobago international Youth player and even played in Brazil's Maracanã stadium whilst on tour with Trinidad last season. Made his full UniBond Premier debut in April 2002.
  • Mark DREW Defender or midfielder, who is a good dead-ball kicker. Mark is a former Bolton Wanderers Academy player and was an important part of the 2000-01 Alty Youth side. Mark is a Cheshire FA player.
  • Ashley ELLIOTT An unused sub. at Lancaster (24/3/02).
  • Domain ESDALE Domain is a talented midfielder, who is the son of Alty's former first-teamer Dave Esdaille (different spelling!). He was an important part of last year's Youth team's successes but his appearances have been limited by injury this season.
  • Paul GLYNN Paul is a right-back who made an impressive start to his Alty career against Gretna.
  • Richard HARRISON Richard has kept goal for Altrincham FA this season.
  • Ashley HENNESSY Ashley was one of the substitutes for the Youth Cup match against Leek.
  • Ian HORTON A very promising and versatile player who has appeared in defence and midfield. He has also played for Alty Reserves.
  • James JENNINGS A hard-working midfielder, who came on as a sub. in the pre-season game at Witton and then joined the Youth Team for the first league game of the season but now seems to have left.
  • Stephen LEIGH Goalkeeper.
  • Stephen LUNT Stephen, a tall striker, scored in his debut for Alty Youth, a friendly at Rainford. He was only sixteen on 30 September 2001 so could be in the side for a while.
  • Lee MacDONALD A left-sided/central mid-fielder, Lee played for Manchester F.A. versus Lancashire F.A. in early October, 2000 and his performance was described as a "personal triumph" by the Manchester Evening News's Sunday Pink. Lee has also turned out for the NW Youth Alliance side and was a key member of last season's Alty Youth side.
  • Steven McGRATH Manchester County centre-back brought in for his debut at Euxton and a regular ever since. Steve is also the Reserves' centre-back.
  • Dean MARLEY Dean started the season at centre-back in the Youth Cup game against Leek but has since played at right-back.
  • Christopher PFEIFFER Chris is an Altrincham FA player.
  • Christopher PHYTHIAN Chris joined the squad for the 2001-02 season and made a good debut against Leek Town in the Youth Cup.
  • Paul ROBINSON Paul is the Youth side's first-choice left-back and has also represented the NW Youth Alliance. A former Man. Utd youngster, he is a regular member of the Greater Manchester County F.A. Under 18 Youth team as well as being a member of the successful Youth side at Altrincham in 2000-01. Paul is also a regular in the Reserves.
  • Vernum ROWLAND A talented full- or centre-back who established himself in the Alty Youth side in the latter part of 2000-01 season and has again impressed this year. Vernum broke into the Altrincham first team making his debut in midfield in March 2002 but has since played at right-back.
  • Lee SHILLITO Another player who made his mark last season in the Youth team, Lee is a fast and skilful striker who has been scoring regularly this season. Has also played in midfield this season and has turned out for the Reserves, too.
  • Richard SMITH A tall midfielder who started the season as a striker, Richard was on the score-sheet in his opening game against Leek Town at Moss Lane in August.
  • Christopher SPENCER Chris was one of the substitutes for the Youth Cup match against Leek.
  • Ian TAYLOR Ian, pictured right, has played impressively for both Alty and the Altrincham FA sides this season.
  • Lee TAYLOR Lee was one of the substitutes for the Youth Cup match against Leek and came on against Gretna.
  • Lee THOMPSON Lee has arrived at Moss Lane from football in the St Helens/Merseyside area. He is a left-sided midfielder with good attacking skills and has played for both the Reserves and First Team this season.
  • Paul THORNE Paul has played as a striker for the Altrincham FA side this season.
  • Paul TILLEY Paul, a most impressive midfielder, was a regular and prominent member of last year's triumphant Alty Youth side and has now assumed the captain's mantle for both the Altrincham FC and District FA sides. Paul also plays for Alty Reserves but also signed for Trafford in late March 2002.
  • David WALSH A nimble striker who has scored some important goals this season.
  • Wes WILKINSON Wes is a strong and fast striker who knocked in quite a few goals last season for the Youth side. Missed the start of the season through suspension and injury and now appears to have left the club.
  • Neil WOLOSZCZUK Neil is a goalkeeper, who played several games for the Youth side last season. Following injury, he returned to the Youth and the Altrincham FA side in November 2001.
